Actually in terms of the annual national wage for all civil servants, in $ terms, the pay for ministers is actually not a lot. However for them to be worth that pay, there is no accountability. If they do a bad job, as it is now over many issues on FT, overcrowding, increase cost of living, stagnant wages and so on, they would have to step down IMMEDIATELY. They have committed a huge mistake but who is there to admonish them? We will have to wait for the next elections to replace those inept politicians.

We need a balanced approach for our parliament - 50% PAP and 50% WP. Things will get more interesting from there on.

What do u think of 49% p8p n 51% wp?

Sounds better leh. [:)]

Yeah - accountability is the word - if they do a good job, they can stay with their million dollar salary, if not - out they go. So far, doesn't look too good.

Well e boot that kicks them out comes around once every 5 yrs or so.

And guess who wears that boot? Its us. The pple of spore. [rolleyes]

Why?? What's so shameful? So if our leaders were the lowest paid in the world we would be proud?

I wud prefer e ministers n mp's paid less n e middle n lower income paid more.

Now its e other way around.

You putting words into his mouth? He only said "shameful" of highest salaries, NOT proud of lowest pays. Two different things.

:D Just like I could be shameful of my cooking coz it's undercooked, or overlooked, he could well be shameful of both highest or lowest pay. :D

I didn't "put words" into his mouth. I asked him a question.

He said that being the highest paid political leader i the greatest shame and so I asked why is it shameful and whether he would be proud if our leader is the lowest paid. It is a question friend, not putting words. As u say, it's 2 different things.

Should asked why are the children allowing their parent working as cleaner? Some may be real cases of no relatives, but most of them are with children who refuse to take care of them. Are we the only nation that has Parent Maintennace Act to force children to take care of their parents?

Obama will be out of his mind if he is to forego his position as the US president and become a PM of a little nation just for that higher pay.

He will be sacrificing travelling in Air Force 1, dictating the security arrangement for his official visits and the power to start a war against anyone on this earth.

Like what the ad says, "There are things money can't buy."
