I think the purpose of this move is to reduce traffic congestion primarily during peak hours.

In this case, they are also trying to deter those people who stop and wait, even if they did not get out of the car and leave it there. It's as bad as PARKING already, even if the driver and other people are still sitting inside the car.

But momentarily stopping to drop off / pick up, then immediately move off... should be excusable.

Nothing against this new initiative, but why need a timeline all the way to 2014 just to install 30 cameras? 30 cameras could have been installed in 30 working days , or let's give it 60 days.

I initially thought I saw 300 cameras until I see clearly.

As for the definition :

“park” means to bring a motor vehicle or a trailer to a stationary position and cause it to wait for any purpose other than that of immediately taking up or setting down persons, goods or luggage;

I think the key word is immediate. There are so many trucks that park along side of the road to load and unload and these guys can be doing this for 30 minutes to one hour!

Guys, bewear of the work "Parking" ..... [cool]

"Parking" under the Road Traffic Act (Law Book) means bring the vehicle to a complete stop anywhere along the side of a road. That is, even alighting or picking up passenger or the wheels not in motion are consider as 'parking'.

When it is "illegal parking"......

Parking anywhere that is not indicated as a desinated parking area is "Illegal Parking"

So installing CCTV to catch 'illegal parking' here by LTA is very grey..... [sly]

Example at Golden Mile area where one stop to alight passengers to catch a bus to MY or Thailand. So does it consitute an offence of "illegal parking" if the CCTV capture it ?????

Same for those who are driving taxi will know that in CBD area, there are desinated alight/picking-up area and if they stop anywhere in CBD (let says Shenton Way) they can be summoned for illegal parking & alighting or picking-up passengers ... [:(]

Parking this word is really grey, there was once I complaint here, I was being told to move when I'm alone IN the car, but the car behind mine with driver standing outside discussing something with another was not told to move, I drove 1 round and they are still discussing....

What's the number to call for enforcement when someone is parking on a handicap lot? My favourite lunch place (Commonwealth Crescent) has a handicapped lot which is ALWAYS occupied by able bodied people.

A lot of them are at MRT stations sia. So have to be extra careful when pick-up/drop-off passengers. :o

thot many MRT stations got drop-off points??? [confused]

I don't think all got. Sometimes the taxi stand taxi also will overflow onto the drop off point, especially at crowded and not so well-designed MRT stations.

It's 30 locations, doesn't mean only 30 cameras. Anyway, u're right, installing e cams can be pretty fast work.

In this case, I guess they haf to be very prudent n careful in rolling out e tender and assessing e tenderers .. ESP w e recent cases [:p]

Actually installing should be the easiest, it is the operational part of ensuring subsequent 24/7 monitoring and filing of evidence and issuing of summons when violations occur that require quite a bit of planning, not to mention the process of tendering and evaluation.

Imagine after the cams are up and enforcement is still a hit-or-miss, sooner or later it is going to be back to square one.

why don't deploy drones? more mobile. and the drone operators can get more hands-on practice.

within 6 months probably can achieve 100% ROI plus operating expenses.

might as well ask the Google Street van to come tender for this project? 1 week donno can cover how many cars already. [laugh]

Yeah you are right...it's 30 locations, not 30 cameras......getting old..eyesight failing... [blush]

Nevertheless, a year is still way too long to install these.

I think they rolling out in stages for testing first, see whether effective or not.

If not effective one shot roll out all, a bit waste of money. <_<
