Remember to give way to Ambulance

Possible reason some appeared not giving way to ambulance - they panic liao!

Especially if there's jam or slow moving traffic with all lanes occupied.

One suggestion, which I personally encountered in MY:

Cars in 1st lane signaled right & drove close to their right (next to rd divider), freeing up 1/2 space of 1st lane.

The onus then was on the cars in 2nd lane to move towards the left side of their lane.

This way, a clear passage way was created for the ambulance to pass thru!

1 time I was a Jb, 2 lane road and traffic was moderate, the I heard ambulance siren getting louder and louder and saw at my rear view mirror ambulance now about 10 cars back. So I thought I can continue drive straight for awhile before when ambulance getting nearer then I change to lane 2 and give way. Who knows, in just 10 seconds, the ambulance appear right behind me already, I was so surprised at the speed the Malaysian car give way and I am caught off guard and took about 3 to 4 seconds to change to lane 2. My bad.

In Singapore, if ambulance 10 car length away, I don't think ambulance will be able to close up so fast, so we really still need a lot of improvement on that aspect, not just the lane ambulance travelling that give way, but also the lane next to it to have the courtesy to open up the gap and not to have this mindset, ambulance at lane1, I at lane 2 not my problem. In fact, if cars at lane 2 and lane 3 turn and open up the space, ambulance will be able to drive in between lane 1 and 2, then lane 1 cars will take notice and turn to the extreme right to very close to the kerb and let ambulance to pass through.

The 42-year-old woman who had a weak pulse had called for an ambulance.

But the driver could not move his vehicle because a car had parked right in front of it and its driver was gone.

“The ambulance driver called back frustrated because there was nothing she could do as (the woman) lay dying behind her. She collapsed, and we administered the defibrillator twice, but we couldn’t save her," said a spokesman for Singapore Emergency Ambulance Services.

The incident was one of two cases of inconsiderate drivers causing the death of heart-attack victims related by the spokesman in the wake of the recent case of a road hog who blocked an ambulance on the Pan-Island Expressway.

Traffic police told The New Paper that they have concluded their investigations into this latest incident, and said action will be taken against the driver.

YES!!

Lane splitting is rare in Singapore - we tend to go "law by law"

In Malaysia you really see is team effort to give space, lane 3 will make space for lane 2 - lane 2 will move right a little, lane 1 left a little and Ambulance up the middle - can get places REALLY fast

Maybe TP can have a law that damage caused by ambulance during emergency are not claimable from insurance, instead the car owner must compensate the damage of the ambulance :D

2 incidents! Waliao....sg drivers are sure getting selfish.....ambulance also dont panchan.

Once i was driving on the 1st lane along skudai....there was a traffic jam and it was rather bad. An ambulance was trying to make it through and you know the MY drivers were trying all sort of pattern to get out of the way. The car in front drove up the kerb and i followed suit. Nb.....most of the cars behind me followed suit and the whole line of cars were on the kerb and the ambulance managed to pass without much impedement! Lucky the kerb in that stretch of skudai was not that high and separated from the road by a very small longkang! In SG i think we will have to climb over the concrete barriers to get out of the way in such a jam!

Maybe TP can have a law that damage caused by ambulance during emergency are not claimable from insurance, instead the car owner must compensate the damage of the ambulance :D

cannot de....if oni in case of confirmed hogging and blocking an ambulance then i support. If innocently kana hit by ambulance and cannot claim chialat lei!

lane splitting for emergency vehicle is good..

but I can never understand why in JB, people always like to lanesplit to cut queue too.. especially when going CIQ.. don't they realise that if emergency happen, we are all going to be sitting ducks?? some more only make the whole process take longer...

I felt really sad and angry at the same time when I saw the headline. A life being taken away so nonchalantly by the selfish behavior of this CB driver. This is not far from murder in my eyes, considering the act was done intentionally to obstruct the timely saving of a precious life. Edited by Jellandross
