Remember to give way to Ambulance

Some people who nvr give way to ambulance must be blind and deaf, siren so loud should have hear few cars away. See rev mirror.

This is what I learn from my stint as emergency nurse.

Ambulance

 

1) Blinker lights not on, no siren = No case

2) Blinker lights on, no siren = Either going to a place to pick up victim or case is not "full emergency"

3) Blinker lights on, siren on = either someone is blocking the road or "full emergency"

4) Blinker lights on, siren on and the ambulance stops at road shulder suddenly = defibrillation (shocking) is being delivered.

 

Not full emergency = short of breath, giddiness

Full emergency = Cardiac arrest or "standby cases"

 

Since a "not full emergency case" can suddenly turn to "full emergency", all should give way to ambulances if they are on a mission.

 

What about those that turn on the siren for a "split second" to get others to give way?

That one should be transiting from number 2 to 3 and to 2 again, because someone blocking.. When you see the blinkers on, just give way....

Too add on, in case u r wondering. If sirens are on all the way but suddenly switched off, check where the ambulance is cos their policy is to off sirens when approaching the emergency dept since everyone knows they are coming and the noise can be distracting to the medical and nursing staff.

I just don't understand why the vehicle in front cannot stop just because there is a tailgating? I mean, who ask u to slam on the brake? Slowly on hazard lights and gradually stop the car.

 

If the front vehicles cannot stop due to tailgating vehicle behinds, 90% of the cab drivers will have no business cos most of the time they are being tail-gated. Some just slammed brake when they saw a customer on the road, ignoring the tail-gating behind.

can spare a thought for the ambulance personnel? there maybe critical case in the ambulance and they need to rush to hospital asap, focus on the road in front than worrying the back, moreover this car is cruising at high speed on the road shoulder. they are not taxi driver and one kuku driver behind could cost a life in the ambulance.

Let's not wait till a loved one or even ourselves is in that life saving ambulance to understand what emergency means.

 

Why be an idiot to tailgate or hog these? Basic considerate behaviour also must teach? If one life can be saved in time, it's worth all the resources and effort to do so.

 

Move aside and do it quickly but safely too. Regularly learn to use rear mirror to check, not whether your hair is in place or to pluck out nose hair, but to give way accordingly.

thanks for the list of scenarios. i think i will not be able to remember the scenarios but will just give way when i have an ambulance behind me.

its easier to give way than to remember the scenarios. i can always go back to the same lane after the ambulance has moved off..

I find that drivers here just lack the civic mindedness. I have seen on many occasions drivers never give way to ambulances. And if they do filter out, you can see them cut back quickly behind the ambulance again, machiam like do not want others to cut queue

Suddenly a lot people become experts in emergency services. please, dont assume what goes on in an emergency. The last thing you want is to cause death or injury because of your inconsiderate actions. Say whatever but if you caused death I am sure you will not feel good for the rest of your life.

 

In most developed countries, cars just move to the side and stop for all emergency vehicles. Let them do their job.

 

In the US, it is illegal to follow emergency vehicles, like ambulance, fire trucks, within 300/500 ft.

A driver was caught on video blocking an ambulance on the right lane of the Pan Island Expressway for five minutes.

The ambulance was rushing a 45-year-old woman in critical condition to hospital.

The Hyundai Matrix refused to give way despite the ambulance's sirens and even braked suddenly at one point, forcing those in the ambulance to be thrown forward as the ambulance also reacted by braking.

Ambulance with siren on is rushing ppl in emergency to hospital for urgent treatment, and any delay can cause repercussions like severe injuries and death in some cases...

 

Why can't ppl be civic and considerate and kind to just let emergency vehicles pass by?

Moving your car to 2nd lane only take abt 5secs at most, but these time can save a person !

 

Hope the authorities can charge this guy who HOG the road !

Can this be reported as a traffic violation? Perhaps the original contributor can send in the video evidence to Traffic Police for further action. Hopefully the patient is not affect by the roadhogger.
