Subaru Owners.. (Part 2)

It is possible to swap a 1.5 to a 2.0/2.5 engine.

very simple job actually.

but don't turbocharge it, the sound will give you away.

anyway becoz of the AWD system and extremely heavy wet weight, the 2.0/2.5 is not going to kill your car or break your gearbox as it is still NA.

If I remember correctly, turbo-charging an NA engine is a $500 fine for "modification of exhaust". But changing your engine to a bigger displacement is a court case as you are cheating on your road tax, etc.

I think either one also constitutes having your vehicle impounded by the TP.

I got think before... but after serious consideration, really is no point. Can hide one time cannot hide forever.

I think the most serious deterrent is what happens if an accident should occur. The insurance company on finding out the extreme illegal mods will void the insurance regardless of the cause of the accident.

Hi,

I drive a Subaru Legacy 2.0 GT Wagon (BP5) and is changing car. Had bought 2 spare O2 sensors during the time I owned it as it is a part that is prone to fail and needs replacing.

Anyone interested can reply or PM me.

Turbocharge NA is consider exhaust mod because u modify intake and not engine cc. it used to be $500 fine for first-timers some time back.

But now increase already . Dont know how much. maybe $1k ?

Engine swap is cheating road tax = cheating govt = in singapore means you kenna big time.

i remember seeing it somewhere they will make u pay back the road tax difference amount from the day vehicle is registered.

Dear Subaru Owners,

May i know if anyone has experience using Epower on his scooby?

Does it help with the Subaru 1.5 hatch back?

Thanks!!

the 3-drive select device is to cheat the throttle. some goes up to Sports7 mode for extreme.

imagine you step abit accelerator but this device will cheat the ECU and make it think you floor the accelerator therefore instant power.

it will definitely improve responsiveness.

but imho, its still a cheating device to the throttle. you can do it with your right foot with abit of training.

A fun toy to play with because most offer eco mode to save petrol if you are not rushing for time.

Epower is like a power charger i believe? i saw a guy driving 1.6l TS last time and he swear by it saying it makes his car go faster.

have not personally experience it though so will leave it to others who took this route.

The 3 Drive Eco mode is like no effect on fuel saving, the SP mode is to open the throttle more than usual for more air intake n cause fuel to burn faster, that's wat I think so.

Quite hard to push a low CC engine cos it's limitation is there, plus the 4WD and heavy chasis.

We tends to up size the tyre profile even its FC unfriendly, just to get a better handling.

Driving the 2 litre for half a decade, my FC is always below 10km/l, very seldom can hit 10.

And that's also due to running on tyre profile of 215"x17", if it's stock profile of 195" then it's FC could be better.

Not sure if you've repaired your radiator, but you can always try the various shops at AMK Autopoint - even just to compare prices.

There's also Fong Bros at Tampines Industrial Park, Chip Soon couple units down from Fong as well.

Any affordable place to change Timing Belt set? $1k-ish is too painful.

Depending on model, our Subaru parts are fairly expensive compared to other makes.

I changed mine for 1.2K inclusive of labour and some other wear and tear parts.

I think a few of the bros here have done it for half the price by buying the parts themselves and then only paying for labour at their workshops. That's the surefire way of driving costs down.

I changed my compressor for +/- $600 at Fong Bros.

I'm sure there are cheaper alternatives out there but it would take time to search. My friend used to service his Impreza at Han Auto, inside Redhill Industrial Park (not fully sure it is the correct name), opposite Queensway Shopping Centre, behind AIA Building. It's cheap, but waiting time is long.

For aircon parts, quite hard to find used parts. Can check with parts seller on costs first before heading down to workshops.

Anyone know who can do repair on radiator?

The usual shortlists consists of Fong Bros, BMS, I now do my servicing at AK Workshop which is a few units away from BMS, so you can go check on their pricing as well.

I know Bukit Batok also have, like Li Hong in WCEGA building, I have repaired my compressor at Midview building on recommendation from a friend, but not sure if they are still opened for business.
