For conti lux/premium cars 5 years or older, the usual calculation is straightline $9500 depreciation a year. So use the 10th year scrap PARF value (in this case is 55% of OMV). Gives you a rock-bottom $67k.

Remember that Singapore cars older than 5 years difficult to export. So left with the buyers on this little island or the snatch thieves in Malaysia.

But now no dealer will swallow this. If you bid $71k, I think can start negotiating, since the end of month is coming. They need to pay rent.

Thanks CSCBB, it was an informative read.

So basically use ur method to calculate "rock bottom price". There after top it up with a few k and that shd be the price I offer the dealers?

Is this the same as what I read earlier in the thread, parf + Coe + export body value ?

What would you consider to be reasonable annual depreciation for a used Honda Jazz/Fit or Mazda 2 (2008-2009)? Based on the asking prices in the ads, there is a wide range, from about $6,500 (for a couple of Mazda 2s) all the way to more than $9,000.

It sounds rather high to me. Am I wrong?

abt 12k depreciation per yr.

probably i go for 10k max which puts the price around 65-70k

10K should be alright. I bought one similar unit last May, and the depreciation per year was about 11K. Now new car agents offered me to trade in that mercy at paper value + $4K

The depreciation method works well for cars 5 years and older. Depreciation of 8k-10k is 'expected' for lux and premium models. Also forces you to confront the amount you will throw away annually. As time drags on, expect depreciation to linger at $8k+ annually even for Merc. Bread and butter Jap cars will hit about $4.5k annually. Korean cars even lower.

The deregistration rebate + export body value is a clearer estimate for your trade-in car, I realise.

how to estimate body value?

I am staying away from bidding for all 2009 - early 2010 cars now because of the extremely low COE then. Dealers are plucking prices out of the air now. Your risk.

Safest bets are Jap late 2006. Aim for depreciation less than $5k. Try to buy without loan for best 'take-and-go' price.

Thanks for the advice.

Would like to check with the more experience pple here. I'm looking to sell my car below are the specs.

Aug 2008

Suzuki Swift 1.3M XG

COE should be around 12-15k

Omv 10k if I'm not wrong.

I'm the 3 owner.

I see pple posting for 40k here on sgcarmart but dealers are quoting me 30k. Understand that they're skeptical about taking in cars now but What would be a reasonable price?

Appreciate all the advice from bros here. Thanks

dealers sure quote you crap prices now. try to sell it on your own. but now second hand market like that, hard to get good price... but sell it on your own sure better than give dealer.

Hi all,

Was wondering if any of you can give me advise on this car

Chrysler 300c

http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.ph...509&DL=1180

It's 2007 car which mean I have another 4 Years to drive if I buy.

How you all determine the body value of the car at scrap for this USA car?

I know it's 3500cc with High road tax but that is ok as I just want to enjoy for my old age now but don't want to spent so much on a S class which is off my budget

Chinese saying want cheap want green

Thanks for all advise rendered

For OPC car, very important to check what was the COE paid.

To estimate PARF for OPC, LTA will first minus the first $17k. If there's a shortfall, the balance will come from the OMV.

Example (i) Car A: COE $7,000; OMV $9,500$7,000 - $17,000 = -$10,000 (not enuf to offset $17k rebate) so next is to minus from OMV$9500 - $10,000 = -$500 (still less than $17k rebate) so NO PARF at Yr10.

Example (ii) Car B: COE $18,000; OMV $9,500$18,000 - $17,000 = $1,000 (enuf to offset $17k rebate)No need to minus from PARF. Hence PARF remains at $5,225 (assuming 55%)

So, gotta be careful when buying OPC. You'll notice many of those scumbag stealers on sgcarmart will not list the COE or OMV for OPC, probably hoping to con some unsuspecting buyer.

MCFers, caveat emptor!

Sgcarmart should require car dealers to fill up the info compulsorily if not the ad cannot be posted. It can be done by changing the field option. And the info such as COE and OMV must be verify with LTA before approving the ad posted online. Therefore to sgcarmart, please wake up your idea [laugh]

Is there any thumb rule for cars that have not reached 5 years?

PReviously, 2-3 years cars were better value than new cars

but now, this means buying cars when COE prices were low. and the list prices are all over the place

what is best way to gauge value? besides paper value - most of cars listed are way above paper value

ok to be fair - i have been a desktop car shopper and not been to dealers to negotiate

but i am looking at 20-30k gaps from list price to paper value

so i am not sure dealers will accept a bid that is like 30+% lower than their list price
