Have decided to share my experience here, it's rather personal but just to let everyone here judge for ur self and mayhe throw sime advise. born in Singapore but parents wasn't married at the point of time, so I dunno why I wasn't given a citizenship despite being born here, studied here served the army and going reservist every single year like everyone here. I've been to the MP since my secondary school days and was told to served the army 1st as I hold the blue ic w no nationality. Served 2 years in the saf w no bad records but wasn't given a citizenship when my china friends all got theirs. Long story short , has been more than 4years since i ORD n earning a stable income, only down side is I do not have a degree or diploma. But I am born here in Singapore and have never lived in any other country before. I see the MP at least 2 time a year every year since ORD. and standard reply "I'll try to write in" that's pap to me. No reason given for rejection nothing. Just to share my personal experience.

Should ask your parents to go and see the MP in 2016 on your behalf, you can't vote, no incentive for MP to push ICA.

maybe easier for him to move to Philippine and live there comfortably and not be separated with wife and kid.

Let me relate one real incident.

One of my company's driver, being not so highly educated earning less than 2k a month, fell in love with an admin lady from pinoy. This pinoy lady was here working on working permit.

Being the case, they got married and have 2 kids. The work permit was terminated and the lady was sent back to philipines. Till date they are still apart, with my driver having to fly twice a year to see his kids and wife. Talk to MP or ICA all no use. The wife also cannot come over to Singapore for a visit.

For his pay, he cannot apply for his wife as a dependant as he is not qualified perhaps wage scale was taken into consideration. So imagine, if one falls in love (which is something you cannot control), and is not highly qualified or with someone of lower pay or work permit, then they their fate is more or less doom.

the world is getting smaller

there are more cross racial and country marriages

they often say long distant relationship very difficult to work

children with often missing parents (due to immigration reasons), there is often less than desireable results in upbring and at best less than optimal upbringing for the children

furthermore it adds financial strain on the family

For geniune cases, I think giving PR is Ok especially if they truly wants to make Singapore their home

otherwise, NO

for any rules, regulations or law

there will always people trying to take advantage, finding loopholes or just blatantly going against the rules

hence, no policy is fail proof

BUT that said

I cannot stand those jokers who milk our system then goes about condemning our country

the likes include

the not yet pass out law student turning porn star, he was giving scholarship (all expenses paid) then condemn Singapore like no tomorrow

the other group

are those who only want to win and absorb and NOT contribute like making their children do NS

so in short

geniune cases, yes

Ur style very scb [laugh]

and here is an answer to ur friend

once the foreigner taking up work permit, u wont be able to get PR, this is one of the recent rules of govt

I guessed, this ruling is to minimize bogus marriages and social issues that they may create if they got a PR.

if its a female singaporean marrying a foreign man,

he serves his NS first before getting his immediate PR.

if its a male singaporean marrying a foreign female,

she must stay for at least 2 years first with contributions to the nation before being eligible to apply.

2 years is too short. Naturalizing may take easily more than 3 - 5 years.

MP always ask same question, got criminal records??? =NO drug trafficker = no. Secret society member = no. Even the MP r puzzled.

Other than feeling puzzled, why not push harder to get to the bottom of the issue in the interest of a genuine case like yours? After all isn't this part of the job of a MP, to resolve such problems and if necessary, challenge the system for improvements!

You deserves a positive response from the ministry concerned.

A MP to me is like PING PONG, they play tai chee among themself, you think they really serve the "people" not to me at least. they even mention my profile isn't strong enough, but what has my profile got to do with my case, i'm born here, studied here, serve 2 years, serve high key low key, ippt, rt. income tax. might be getting married in years time, cannot apply for flat, cannot go oversea for honeymoon, even in the army i was actually being posted to taiwan but unable to go.

You should come out something like PR can work and live here but not to buy property....Only can lease short/long rent term basis to cut it short....Make them work for Singaporeans and not the opposite way....at least our local can have some side income to support the children education/elderly parents.

the mother of a singapore citizen should be offered PR.

the offer is only presented once.

Of course, PR statuses can be revoked according to present rules.

Bro, PRs are no longer the majority of middle income. The newer ones are the well educated and richer ones. Do you think, they will work for you? [laugh] [laugh] I invested tons of $$$ here. So the other way round. :D
