From this letter to ST, I cannot see where the subsidy is in restructured hospitals?

In JULY, I went for a mammogram and ultrasound at Changi General Hospital (CGH) and was shocked to find that the cost had gone up by more than 40 per cent compared to what I paid in June last year.

CGH upgraded its facilities in the past year and it may have purchased new equipment. But I hope it is not passing these costs to patients by charging more for diagnostic tests and other procedures.

I subsequently inquired with Gleneagles Medical Centre on the cost of the same diagnostic tests and found out that it charged 7 per cent less.

As a private patient, I do not expect to be subsidised, but I also do not expect to have to pay more in a government restructured hospital.

Separately, I inquired with both Tan Tock Seng Hospital and CGH on the cost of a first-time consultation with a specialist

Not really surprise that restructured hospital can cost as high or more for private patient. Coz they already have the hands full with subsidized patients. To me it's like if you want to be a private patient, don't crowd with with the subsidized patient, go to private one instead.

Ya, no more plan A and B. The new one is Prushield and Prushield Extra, which provides better governance than the older plan.

Just be careful when do switching. If you have pre-existing conditions please don't switch as it will do you no good. But if you are in pink if health, by all means, it's your choice.

So far so good. I was in my 20s when it all happened. Now not switching liao, but want to increase the the premium for better coverage. [:)]
