Pisces69 6th Gear March 15, 2013 Share March 15, 2013 There is still a physical connect between the rack and the steering wheel, just that the electric assist is so strong that it numbs the feeling. Women just love these super light steering cars. So easy to park. What do ty know abt spirited driving feel.

Myxilplix Turbocharged March 15, 2013 Share March 15, 2013 It's not just about the weight of the steering, it's about feedback too. I've driven cars with decently weighted steering that are really numb and give almost no feedback. In fact that's one of the reasons i sold my K5 after a year+ of ownership, too numb and not accurate at higher speeds.

But 30yrs ago fr isuzu to hv that feature to adjust e weight was quite advanced already. That was when i was working at GM but i never tried driving that model so cant say abt its feedback. Zyklon 5th Gear March 15, 2013 Share March 15, 2013 Personally I don't like electric steering. Nothing to do with the weight, but more of the feel. It feels totally numb and I never really know what the front tyres are doing. Electric steering does not mean it will be lighter than hydraulic steering. Some electric steering are quite heavy, while some hydraulic steering can be so light. The heaviest steering I have driven to date is a Nissan Urvan. So heavy that I felt as if I pulled a muscle at the end of the day.
Ake109 6th Gear October 21, 2014 Share October 21, 2014 If you ever have the chance, go try old cars like MGB or Alfa 33 or KE70... no power steering. You can feel the little bumps on the road thru your steering wheel. Some like the Alfa, with slightly 'bigger' tyres like 195/205, you need serious arm power to turn it during parking. ↡ Advertisement
