Cichildae Neutral Newbie March 11, 2013 Share March 11, 2013 (edited) To be fair to the ws, we didnt see how the condition of e rotors are... If those racing pads are used or often hard brakings, it will be possible that rotors need to be replaced.... Think about it, brake pads bite on the rotors too tats wat both are for.. At the end of day ws can recommend but its up to customers to choose whether they want to purchase or not... Knowing Singaporeans, if there was an accident and its found out its due to the brakes - first thing owners will say y ws nv say must change since its damaged? its a cover back side from ws coz at least they have said so hahaha.. It's like ADs - ppl know they charge high but there are customers who still go back for piece of mind and e crappy warranty.. There are good n bad ws no doubt... But its those tat ask u change many things but e car is still gives prob tat are e *&*@^#&*@%# ws... Kangadrool Supersonic March 11, 2013 Share March 11, 2013 same for me, changed the disc at that rate too. I am surprised some bro here do not change brake disc from shop to scrap. the mechanic took out my brake disc, asked me to run my finger across the surface. It was indeed no longer smooth, and full of deep rings. Went ahead and change it. the effect was immediately, no more shuddering grip on brake, firm car stop on tap. I gathered that the my old brake disc has less surface area (i.e. deep rings), that why previous grip was not good, and full of shuddering noise. Rings/Grooves are "normal" if you have used more biting/non-stock brake pads. As long as disc is within thickness specs, it's still OK. Only thing to note is, when renewing new brake pads, there will be some loss in braking power due to new brake pads are not grooved in to the discs. After a while, when the pads have acclimatized to the discs, everything is back to normal. Only way to avoid grooves is to stick with stock pads. Sometimes i see dog pee on tire...e rim warp even. And can see smoke coming out. ok, if got the chance, next time i see dog pee can wash/run off grease stains on the rim due to its high temperature.... Kenopt2 1st Gear March 11, 2013 Share March 11, 2013 I drove a 2004 Sunny and have covered slightly over 170k km. Only changed front brake pad once. I have a good, old and reliable mechanic whom I met in 2006 along Sin Ming drive. Have been asking him to check my rear brake disc almost once or twice a year during my motor oil change. Always same answer - No need. I think I changed my front brake pad at 100k km. Some experience with front brake pad. Previously, I owned a COE sunny. I replaced the front brake pad after it was worn out. Problem started when i noticed powderly particles on the right front wheel. Went to get my tampines mechinic to resolve problem but failed. In the end, the lead guy even suggest to change more things which can come close to $1k. Had a friend who owned a Opel MPV. Since most of us are familiar with changing brake pads only, he did the same for the front wheels. Then when he send in for agent for service, agent told him Opel car need to change both the rotor and pad together. I don't understand the logic but my friend was upset and has to change his front wheel rotos and pads. Cost him a bomb. Later he changed to a toyota mpv. From this discussion, I believe brake disc is seldom change during the 10 years life while front brake pads may need to change once or twice depending on usage. ↡ Advertisement
