The govt has started Pervasive Deployment of Speed and Red Light Cameras!!!!

From www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/view/1258531/1/.html

By year's end, there will be 50 per cent more patrol officers on the roads compared with the current 140. Auxiliary Police Officers will also be deployed to assist with enforcement.

And by the end of next year, 300 speed and red light digital cameras will be installed at various locations to make it easier to detect violations and identify offenders more quickly.

Mr Iswaran said: "Safer Roads Singapore is a comprehensive strategy to improve road safety by changing the norms of road use. Traffic Police will be firm and fair in enforcing traffic rules. We will also intensify our upstream education and engagement efforts to inculcate the right mindsets, habits and skills for safer road use."

Gov shoulds be more harsh, like some other places, where you get suspension (for a period) if you exceeded certain limit & dash red light....on top of demerit your points.

Can all these detect inconsiderate drivers?

The problem on the road is not so much of prevalent dangerous driving. I believe a big majority of the drivers honestly wanted to drive safely. It is however, their character of being inconsiderate, hence leading to impatience and distraction that leads to dangerous driving and accidents.

So will all these gadgets and speed camera investment brings down accident rate? I don't think so...the most it brings is more fine and more penalties. But it will not eradicate the behavior of inconsideration. You can suspend 100 "bad" drivers from the road, but the next day you have another 100 new drivers graduating from the driving school bearing the behavior of inconsideration and hence accidents again.

Treat the root cause is better than treating the symptoms. All these measures are just treating the symptoms and hoping that the cure will find its way. It just doesn't happen that way.
