Frankly , it's not wise to go inspect the undercarriage when the car is just driven to the shop. The cat is extremely hot, there are engine blow by fume , dripping fiulds etc that are not good for yr body.

I think a platform lift with the safety "locking teeth" on the 4 posts will be safer that the one pictured here.

Ok tks fr yr good advice. I usually wait awhile b4 checking n dun touch e exhaust.

I just look fr damage...fluid leaks n worn bushings n boots.

Its e best time cos when e cars up there i can see e undercarriage much better.

Wil note yr advice n wait 5-10 mins b4 checking next time.

Most places i notice e mech wil manually lock e lift.

Otherwise i wait fr mech to go below 1st. Then it sud b safe.

Lead burnt engine product high % of nitrogen, some engine additives when comes into contact with high exhaust temp will produce gases that are very harmful for the lungs. In fact many retired mech suffer from bad health , skin problems, back/leg problems and for those frequent user of impact tools suffer from hand nerve problems.

Ya and in case the manual lock fails, the locking teeth will still hold the hoist in place.

No in Sarawak Kuching

The twin post lifting arm rubber pads may have wore out or the mech did not position the arm pads at the correct lifting points

Many shops either purposely not want to use those rubber pads. These ppl need to be educated.

Not only do they protect the cars from scratches, they prevent metal to metal slippage.

If those lifting equipment, air compressor etc are supplier by oil companies, basically they are well maintain by oil companies contractors.Only those in house equipment purchase and own by the shops themselves are usually in very bad operating conditions. Its high time MOM industrial safety inspectorate pay more attention to this industry.

the 1st photo's tagline is misleading..it says "Always leave your car to professional people"..but the workshop in question is Honda service centre @ Cheras..aren't they the professionals?
