Not about winning, but about being human!

Nice vid.

Reminds of famous quote from Danish sailor Paul Elvstrom (won 4 Olympic sailing gold over consecutive Olympics).

"You haven't won the race, if in winning the race you have lost the respect of your competitors."

truth is education must come from parents as a start.

in school and any other environment, our children are schooled to the thoughts that winning is everything.

i always tell my boy, just do your best. it is not necessary to be No.1 to show that you have achieved something.

It is the process that you go through where you know you have done your best you could.

And it is a bonus if you help someone else along the way and you know you feel good after that.

lots of encouragement is required and i admit it is a tough fight against the system that we are in today.

sometimes it pays to take a step back and look at the situation from a different perspective.

something we can all learn from! Sportmanship wins!

cried a few tears. it wasn't so long ago when we had a little of this in the 70s and the 80s. Not everything was about winning. Often, it was encouragement, self sacrifice and caring about making others happy too.

passing our football to the weaker player in the team so he can touch the ball a few times, picking a weaker player for the team and guiding him on how to play his position and support him along the way. The team with the weaker players played twice as hard but it didnt matter.

All these are now a distant memory.

just think of what is the first reaction you would do when someone knock you from behind on the road?

Huat ah! New bumper, exhaust pipe, whiplash, MC! [laugh]

A kind act indeed. But some people will view it as an "insult" to the No. 4 person. Remember the Standard Chartered Marathon? The organizer decide to share the T-shirts with those who are diverted due to road opening. Then there was a big hoo ha about how these T-shirts should be thrown away instead of being shared with the diverted runners and giving out these Tshirts were an "insult" to them as they don't "deserve" it. Worse still, there was major shaming all over the Internet for those who were diverted. it's not about winning. It's about making sure those who "lost" were announced and shamed and deprived of simple things like tees. That is the ugly side of human nature which is prevalent in SG.

heard over the radio on some simple story, a primary sch kid won 3rd prize but he gave half his award to the number 4 (no.4 no award mah), cos he say their score was very close and he think the no. 4 deserve this. It was done without the school knowing.

its all depends on the surrounding people and culture, many still have such heart when they were young but corrupted along the way. the parents are not showing good example. the stomp and the video clips.

just think of what is the first reaction you would do when someone knock you from behind on the road?
