Rubbishman 1st Gear February 27, 2013 Share February 27, 2013 (edited) Most luxurious models can't make it. But wondering which cars are close to the 20K mark and avoids the new ARF tax? The closest OMV to 20K should be the Chevy Captiva @S$19792 and kia Optima @$19883. Real close. Edited February 27, 2013 by Rubbishman Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Rubbishman 1st Gear February 27, 2013 Share February 27, 2013 Exceed abit also doesnt matter what since the added arf is progressive. I think what matters to the middle class is not so much on the ARF but rather on the 40% or 50% downpayment which is much more significant. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
Alheych 6th Gear February 27, 2013 Share February 27, 2013 (edited) yes, say a car has an OMV of $20,001: the first $20,000 will be taxed 100% = $20,000 the next $30,000 will be taxed 140% = $1.40 total ARF will be $20,001.40. not $28,001.40 which is 140% of the OMV. what's significant though, is that once the OMV is $20,001, loan is 50% max instead of 60% max. TheRationalVoice 1st Gear February 27, 2013 Share February 27, 2013 Here is another way to calculate ARF:- If omv = v, and ARF = A, then 1. A = v for v <= 20k 2. A = 1.4v - 8k for 20k < v <= 50k 3. A = 1.8v - 28k for v > 50k Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Simplecar 4th Gear February 27, 2013 Share February 27, 2013 thought you had compiled a list that brought me here LOL i thought so too. Anywy we can easily check with LTA. Just wondering, the OMV is computed upon registration. Now it would appear that ADs have to check with LTA and advise at point of sale, prominently displayed in showroom. Simplecar 4th Gear February 28, 2013 Share February 28, 2013 We will see more barebone cars .. :) cars with no HID, no leather seats, no climate control, smaller tires, basic rims, to squeeze into 20k OMV :) That makes sense, in the light of the policies in place. Problem arises when people start putting back parts that could have been options in the original car, but added in later just to keep within 20k to secure higher loan quantum. And why not? However, factory options are cheaper when they come with the car. Right? Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
