Antonee 6th Gear February 25, 2013 Share February 25, 2013 Hi folks, as many of u know staff appraisal is every year review. Would like to ask if any of u encounter the following: 1) your superior appraise u then dug up every things u have done incorrect and wrote bad reviews abt u (however chit chatting like very good friend). And then the good things that u committed are not written in details. 2) your colleague sabo u by saying not really cooperative in fact it's not the case. Worst your superior is good friend with this colleague ( though some may be the case u dislike him/her due to chemistry reason) 3) must work late frequently to show passion for ur job? ( ya , lifeless .. U go home early without finishing ur project coz u know u have a week to complete so still got time to do also Kenna wrote down ) 4) things wrote in ur appraisal does not justify ur day to day commitment? Feel free to add on or any thing .. Darn stuck up tonite ↡ Advertisement
Shibadog Turbocharged February 25, 2013 Share February 25, 2013 sorry to read abt ur situation bro. sad to say, many times, performance appraisal is done wrongly.... where it's more abt whether the boss likes u or not (i.e. how good r u at tripod) rather than based on quantifiable performance metrics. KPIs shld be set and measured... cold and emotionless.. not subject to a person's feelings. i ever had a boss tell me that based on my performance, i shld be getting a double promotion but it went to another person instead (as he was just posted in from the mother company). Needless to say, i did not stay long in that company.
Jamesc Hypersonic February 25, 2013 Share February 25, 2013 All of the above happened to me. Sadly in my case it was all true. 99% of managers are not trained to do appraisals so they just de-motivate their staff instead of appraising them. Just take it with a pinch of salt. Most managers should actually be comedians but sadly they are not funny!

Jamesc Hypersonic February 25, 2013 Share February 25, 2013 (edited) you work in the same office as him? i read it everyday I used to work in an IT company Helpdesk when I was younger and they parachuted in a useless supervisor from Hong Kong. All she ever did is scream - log it in, log it in. One day there was a power trip and all our computers went down and she started shouting - log it in, log it in! And we all started laughing, our computers are all down, how to log anything in? So yeah! I always preach that the only management book I use is Dilbert, the other management books don't have enough real life content! Toothiewabbit Supersonic February 26, 2013 Share February 26, 2013 (edited) After such a demoralising appraisal, a little self-introspection does no harm. Good to always improve oneself lah. But remember tell yourself that this appraisal is about what you did or did not do. It is not about you as a person. Heads up bro! Feel free to add on or any thing .. Darn stuck up tonite You've got to be strong and at the same time, ensure you have always done your duties in an exemplary measure. Realise that your boss is just another person, like you. I have been thru a similar situation, boss hated me for some unknown reason, but I always got sh1t done and also raised the profile of the department. I realised he was jealous of me, but didn't call it out, I just countered his every criticism of me with a positive, annecdoted fact. I pushed him to give me an "above target" rating, he wanted to give me an unsatisfactory! Also, you need a network, I brought up names from the HODs of all the other departments who had given me positive feedback all year. Your boss can be manipulated, I have been doing it all my life, it's f--king fun!
Maseratigood 5th Gear February 26, 2013 Share February 26, 2013 Bro, Believe in yourself, don't give up just because of people who go against you in this working place. Why let others make you feel shiit more than necessary? Having said this, try to see where you can improve, nobody is perfect, not even 70 or 80% perfect, right? If your boss' so-called appraisal has some valid points, see how you can gain from it by making changes in you or the way you handle your work etc better. Also, if these things make your heart feel really heavy, take time off to unwind, take a walk or go for a run, meet someone for chats or do something you enjoy, just to keep your mind from being "crushed". Can even throw darts at the pic of your boss, if it helps to relieve some steams Tomorrow will be better, you need to survive to see tomorrow and not be bogged down or crushed. Feel free to add on or any thing .. Darn stuck up tonite I understand how u feel cos I I kenna something similar as u for my 2010 appraisal. I had to take 3 days of urgent leave as my boy was hospitalised. My appointed back up didn't want to cover my duties cos she didn't "like" the salesperson. The salesperson complained later to my manager. He was unhappy with the lack of coverage and not because I had to take urgent leave. Guess what, for my appraisal, it became my fault instead. I was told I could have ask my parents or wife to take care of my boy in hospital while I come back to office. My appointed back up had a very good review by the way. WTF! Also my other effort was not recorded down. It's like the whole appraisal was done solely on that 3 days of urgent leave and nothing else. Right away, I stood up, left the meeting and went to the director who is my manager's boss, told her what happened. She was shocked and promised to amend my appraisal rating. I also requested for a transfer and was out of the team within 1 month. I farked cared the handover of my tasks and till date, my former manager is still struggling to find someone who is able to perform my previous role. The best thing of all, I'm now in a control role which means whenever my former team c0ck up, the bitch would have to write a report and submit to me for review. Talk about karma. Darn stuck up tonite happen to me before, you probably won't stay long in the company. even you do, it will be stagnant.. this is why i hate working life so much, people are so prejudice and only remember the faults, nothing about the good. wick people like colleague sabotaging and bad mouthing others.. working late, it doesn't meant anything. only reflect poor time management skill. work life balance, my @ss.. in local context, it won't be balance. i feel you, bro
Cars08 1st Gear February 26, 2013 Share February 26, 2013 not all up there think that appraisal is necessary...most find it to be a waste of time...there is no absolute right or wrong...if u feel u r appraised incorrectly, talk to ur superior to understand why. Ask for feedback constantly and don't wait till the day of appraisal then it will be too late. if u dun ask, it is also ur fault to assume all are well.. sometimes u got to watch ur superior's pattern.... appraisal is a good tool and shld be used as a motivational tool but many failed to do that instead they whip more than they motivate...very common .... Anyway, if u have better options, move on, if not, then work around the system...an appraisal for the year will not determine who you are in future. It is you who should find out what needs to be improve on and conquer the obstacle. The devil is always in you rather than in that person who appraise you... That being said, it is not always easy to overcome that emo aspect...it feels trashy but that's life...u win some u lose some...it is jus another game for the year... ↡ Advertisement
