I had mine changed on the 1st yr when it was still under warranty. Initially, the mechanic just tighten it but it doesn't help. The noise was very slight when I go over bump, and only myself as driver could feel it, Even the mechanic claimed all was normal until I insist there was noise.

 

Ok Sounds like i have to replace the whole thing :(

 

Just wondering what year is your car? is it 2006-2007 (as the recall said those are the affected vehicle)?

and once you have your replaced, does the noise ever come back again?

 

I have to pay for the fix myself so want to know if it's a fix once, fix forever kind of fix? (as it's not cheap at all)

When chatting with the workshop manager, it looks like a known problem. He was saying that the replacement part is a new improvement and not the same as the original.

I'm still not sure if i should take it back to Toyota for fix or the other mechanic workshop... but either way, it doesn't seem like it's a very well known issue here so I hope i can help/guide them by telling them what are the exact parts i need...

 

I got a quote that the whole steering rack is over $1400NZD .. which is over $1000USD.. + labour :(

Sorry bro can't help on the part because I got no idea on the new part number. I just hand over to the shop to fix it. And by the way 1400NZD is very expensive indeed. 2 times more than what I did.

Sorry friend,i did not receive a service report from the repair as it was under warranty; hence, i am not sure of the part number.

But it certainly looks expensive, $1,400 NZ, I wouldn't bother to change if it does not compromise with safety.

hi bro, can you remember when approx did you get your steering rack fixed?

I found there are actually multiple revision of the steering rack, so want to see from what version onwards would fix the issue

my made is in Nov 2008 and the repair is somewhere around Nov 2011 or March 2012. I didn't get the service report as it was under warranty. I remembered I had to wait for few months for the new part, hence it is more likely in March 2012.

side track abit, does anyone knows where to get the audio panel for our ride apart from STS?

 

Got quoted from a few shops and they are charging close to 200 for a panel....

also, did anyone change their shock absorbers before? just went for servicing today and was told

that my front shock absorber is leaking and the stabiliser link is spoil....

 

Where could be a good place to get both change?
