Petrol Price Movement in Singapore

It's hard to get bargains on fuel locally.

Just close your eyes and pump when your car yells : "Feed me!"

All part of the cost of ownership.. cheers

Does this mean that if my car's min RON requirement is 91, I will get better mileage from 95RON than 92RON?

I found that the best mileage methods are achieved not by which fuel I pump but by:

1- when I stopped fetching my in-laws to/fro.  Ask them to pay for Grab/Uber by themselves.

2- I put to "economy friendly" drive mode in morning  n evening rush hour traffic on CTE

3- when I tell my spouse I will be late after work n cant fetch her (so she takes MRT home)

4- top up to only 1/2 tank of fuel n only refuel when it drops to 1/8 tankful.  You see, less fuel less weight car is lighter

5- buy more expensive but better/lighter tyres.  A lot of people don't know that some tyres weigh a lot more for the same size.  not only slow down acceleration/deceleration, but increases FC.  Same logic as heavy rims.  That's why I stick to Michelin n Continental.

As u can see, I am quite Giam-Kah-Nah one.

Well bro

If you really want to save fuel, park that car at home then.. or better yet, do the BMW thing..

Driving gives me pleasure, and is convenient. I get to listen to music, news and be alone with own thoughts, if only for a short while.

And I will pay for these simple pleasures in life.. cheers

no 4. You run the risk of turbo starvation and damage if you continue to risk a very low fuel situation.

If SPC raises prices by only one cent and stands firm, the rest might follow suit and reduce by 2 cents to bring it on par with SPC at $2.18.

But if SPC raises prices by a further 2 cents within the next few days to match its competitors, then it's all but a WAYANG!

Kudos to SPC, the other oil companies dropped 95RON price by 2 cents to $2.18.  [thumbsup]

Nowadays I happily step full throttle when I feel like zooming along. No more a slave to the car by accelerating slowly and maintain rpm below 2000 to save fuel... now the car does what I want with no thinking of saving FC

Should be ok lah.  Not drive until last drop.

When the low fuel light comes on I should have enough fuel to go another 50km or so.  Fast hand fast leg go pump petrol back up to half tank full :D

Dropped by Shell Dunearn

No coupons

Btw they are still functioning, just doing the office and some other parts including the Honda service area.

No joy folks..

Well I guess we all know why they are doing renovations now..

http://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/transport/shell-to-end-partnership-with-7-eleven-chain

Good bye 7-11..

Oil giant Shell will end its 11-year-old partnership with convenience store chain 7-Eleven this year, as it looks to rebrand its petrol stations to be in line with its "long-term business strategy".

Shell Singapore retail general manager Aarti Nagarajan said the move started with the launch of its Tampines Avenue 2 station in June, adding that a "national revamp will take place gradually in phases with the introduction of Shell Select and Deli by Shell". This will effectively end Shell's venture with 7-Eleven.

In 2006, Shell engaged the 24-hour chain to run its network of petrol stations here, saying the move would allow it to focus on more profitable activities.

The Straits Times understands, however, that the exercise has met with mixed results - unlike a similar arrangement between rival ExxonMobil and NTUC FairPrice.

Shell currently has 57 stations, down from 68 some 10 years ago, and as many as 74 in 2003.

The drop is on the back of an industry-wide shrinkage, with the total number of stations falling from 222 in 2003 to around 170 today.

Several sites had been assigned by the Government for other uses when their leases expired. Others were deemed security risks as they were too near high-rise residential or commercial developments.

Ms Nagarajan, meanwhile, has dismissed market talk of Shell selling or leasing some of its stations to Chinese oil giant Sinopec as just that, talk. She described comments to that effect as "speculative" and "not been verified".

Shell was responding to a Sunday Times report that Sinopec was entering the petrol station business here, and had secured two sites. In it, an industry source had said: "There's no economic sense having just one or two stations. Word in the market is that Shell may release 10 to 15 stations to them. Lease or sell, we do not know."

Ms Nagarajan added: "We are committed to invest and grow our retail business in Singapore, which remains a strategic country for Shell."

I don't care whether there's 7-11 or Cheers!

All I want is no frills, and cheap petrol.

Petrol stations could follow this example - http://www.wash.sg/index.html

Drive into petrol station, DIY pump petrol yourself, and pay by credit card at the machine beside each kiosk.

Need just one staff to be on duty to handle emergencies.

This nation allowed me to drive a car, so paying some tax is ok!

RON does not determine mileage lah.

Very simplistically (it's actually much more complicated than that) it's a combination of the gasoline grade's molecular weight, PONA (% aromatics & cyclic naphtenes, vs the shorter-chained, linear (cracked) olefins and aliphatics); and MON et al ... that determines the thermodynamic specific-enthalpy (BTU/mole) generated per in-cylinder detonation of the fuel used.

Put it another way, a 98R blend from a cracker-based (e.g. FCC / LRCC) Refinery will generally give a LOWER miles/gallon, compared to a 98R blend coming out of an Aromatics-plant-based Refinery. Comparing like, marketable final gasoline products at the pumps, that is.

Mileage also gets worse when octane boosters (e.g. MTBE, or MSBE, etc) are used! The blend components' RONC (RON Clear, for short) is thus critical to the fuel's delivered mileage to consumers.

As someone has put it aptly, in layman's terms ... using kopi kao (vs poh) as an analogy!

Well-said bro. I am totally smitten by my car and intentionally take longer routes just to enjoy the drive. I make it a point to go to all the out-of-reach nooks of Singapore because what's the point of buying a car if you aren't going to drive it!?
