Sometimes parking at work in CBD is shag la. $3+ per 30mins, park from 9am to 6pm already $54. Two-way MRT trip only less than $4.

Then again, it all depends on your income and what you are comfortable with. If you are a banker working in Marina Bay earning $15-20k a month, what is $54 parking + ERP + petrol to you? But that doesn't mean everyone wants to spend their $54 that way...

If u work in CBD, better option is to buy season parking, about 400+ per mth. If the building season carpark is full, next building might have. 

Personally, no pun to others. It is ironic, losing $$ daily on a car in the carpark n to save $$ by not using the car.  

Sell the car, book a grab or rent a daily car when needed. 

Different ppl, different logic of owning an expensive metal in SG. "want" vs "need".

i rather choose the most effective and convenient way to travel given a certain destination

could be walk, bike, public transport or drive

I used to do that when I first got my car. During first year of ownership.

Drive twice a week, mostly weekends only. On Sat I would see a layer of dust gathered from Mon to Fri  

New car smell doesn't go away after 2 years even.

Come to think of it, that was really foolish.

Money already spent cannot be saved and ongoing costs are not avoidable if you going to enjoy it.

I think many people buy car to park at house carpark more than driving out. My house MSCP everyday can see many cars parked. 

But actually, even if the car is not parked at house carpark, the car also parked at workplace carpark whole day without using lo. So basically, buy car is parked more than using la. Unless the car is used as PHV. 😂

True, not about how much your salary is. Some people even their salary is $30 to $40k per month, they also would not want to spend $400-$500 season parking in CBD. Many time it depends on what you want first.

You should have bought an OPC car if you parked your car from Mon to Fri. Heart still not so pains even the car is left in the carpark collecting dust. But if you have a normal plate car and seldom drive, it is better not to own any car la, even if you are rich. I have a rich relative sold away his car during the covid period when the car is left sitting in the carpark most of the time than using, he finds that it is not economical sense to idle the car. He would buy another car next time if needed.

yes, people who earn 50k/month, will also not spend the unnecessaries $ .

if the person used to buying $2 mcchicken , he might not buy if mcchicken rise to $20, altho he is earning 50k. its human nature/characters.

My house carpark got 2 ah peks like that, most of the time their cars are parked there. Come down to wipe nia.

And both of them driving Altis. 😬

Black plate can drive any time, I don't personally like red plate or classic plates at all. But if it is a spare car, then yes it makes all the sense to do so.

Given COE prices and its unpredictability, "buy another car next time" is never a good bet for the average joe unlike your rich relative - the COE I paid previously vs current prices is incomparable.

Yes I used to think like that.

But now we are living in volatile times. Covid changed everything. If we ever go back to pandemic era (touch wood), I would pay $5 RON95 prices and $10/30mins prices just to avoid crowds and travel safely...

If the car owner is retirees, then understand lo. But if the car owner is working and yet buy car but never use much due to don't want to spend money on parking and petrol ect, then quite wasted la.

Agreed, if back to the serious pandemic era, i rather pay high parking fees to travel safely.
