Toeyritztt 1st Gear March 21, 2013 Share March 21, 2013 Saw a fierce low Red 159 with yellow brake calipers this morning exiting from SLE to Woodlands Ave 12 going towards Ave 10 direction. If you are here, i was drooling at your ride. haha! Were u the black 159? coming out off Thomson Rd into SLE ... I think. Coz my dotter is my in-car scanner for Alfas on the road...she "spotted" one..but I had my eyes on the road..hehe..

Chrispie 5th Gear March 21, 2013 Share March 21, 2013 (edited) I heard alfa driving performance no good..... True? was chatting with a guy about cars. Topic of the 159 came up, and he didnt know i drive that. He who test drove the 159 told me : The car engine cannot make it, the gear box cannot make it, handling cannot make it, and the sales executive keeps asking him to drive slower. He feels that everything sucks about this car. Those who dare not take the plunge and who do not question why there are so many die hard fans will never understand. They will never know how rewarding it can be, once they learn what the car is all about and how to really handle it properly. To them, its just another sucky jerky car. Those who knows, knows. Too many out there like to form their opinions about Alfas to conform with what the mass think. topic on cars came up with another young chap who i bought my pc from. When i asked him what he thought about Alfa, he very quickly said Alfa is a sh!t car. I asked him how he knows, he said he studied about cars. I asked if he ever driven one, he said no. I rest my case. But i rather it this way. Makes the car niche. Im glad im not just another audi or bmw or merc. Even the TG guys readily admit that you are only truly a car nut or petrol head once you own an Alfa Most others (including the swarms of German (non Porsche) car owners) are pretenders. Look it is not just about specs - it is the total driver involvement. Porsche also has it. If you want to be a sheep then go buy a Toyota. But as Chrispie says, (and I drive a Brera) these are rarer than Lambos on Singapore roads and I am proud of that. And I love my car. Would I get another - yes in a heartbeat. You will read all sorts of issues with AR. What about VW and all their dodgy DG gearboes and poor AS? What yuo get on this fora is a group of dedicated die hard fans that freely and openly exchange thier opinions and assistance to each other Go with your head - buy Toyota and forever enjoy a pleasant life for the non car enthusiasts who dont care about cars. Go with you heart and enjoy life to it fullest. Up to you man.

So went to test drive a few cars that is comparable to the Alfa. Merc C180 1.6T 7-g tronic - Comfortable car, but handling wise lose out to the Alfa even though it's a RWD. The claimed 0-100km/h is 8.5 second, faster then the alfa's 8.7, but it feel's slower and less powerful then the alfa. Low equipment level, no electric and memory seat, and the headlight looks ugly. Volvo S60 1.6T : the 1.6T engine is surprisingly good. In my opinion it feels faster and more powerful then the paper specs claims. I believe now they have a option to "polestar" by the agent it for more horsepower, and warranty would not be void. It's a comfortable car and handling still not as good as the Alfa in my opinion. No auto headlight nor memory seat. Volvo AD's service is excellent Nearly changed to this car, but as I have the S80 2.0T at home, it doesn't make sense to get another volvo. Did not test drive the new BMW 320 2.0T, but I suspect it might be a better car overall compared to the Alfa ... The Alfa 2.2jts engine is "borrowed" from GM, but it really comes alive at the higher rpm. Had a friendly run with a Audi A4 1.8T, I can pull away from him at higher speed. Yes the Alfa might not be the fastest car, the best handling car nor the most comfortable car on the road. But its the "flawed" character and driving feel that makes me appreciate the car. We prefer to enjoy our drive. High bhp, low fuel consumption and commonly seen on road equates performance.

Saabretooth 2nd Gear March 21, 2013 Share March 21, 2013 I heard alfa driving performance no good..... True? Alfa driving performance? You like with feeling or without feeling? Usually the alfa comes modified from factory, anything else we do to it is tweaking only. Most of the time, the Driver is the one that is also performance driven. Its like going fast in a piece of art. So you'll have to hop into an Alfa driven by the Alfa owner. He'll show you what the Marque is all about. We have a friend who is driving a Merc Cabrio 230 or was it 280. In one afternoon, he got bitten. STI owner also so sad he sold of his Busso-licious Alfa. now with some tinge of regret. Depends on what you deem as performance.
