Powercolt Neutral Newbie February 13, 2013 Share February 13, 2013 What a interesting idea. HAHA Bishan GRC MP proposes National Defence Duty for foreigners Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC member of parliament Hri Kumar Nair has proposed that all permanent residents (PRs) and foreigners pay a new National Defence Duty tax and have the money placed in a trust fund for men in National Service (NS). In a Facebook note on Wednesday morning, Nair said this would help impose similar nation-building duties on such members of the public and address ↡ Advertisement
Angcheek Hypersonic February 13, 2013 Share February 13, 2013 The question is who will the FT point the gun at ......... and is confident PRs and foreigners will not flee Singapore if and when the tax is implemented, due to low tax rates here. I think they treasure their life more than your tax

Benarsenal Turbocharged February 13, 2013 Share February 13, 2013 This is what a lot of people are fed up about. Our politicians can only think in terms of $$$. Any problem, just throw $$$ at it and it will go away.
Kusje Supersonic February 13, 2013 Share February 13, 2013 I support this but they should also look into imposing a similar tax on females who don't serve NS. Once they get married and do their "national duty", they can stop paying the tax and enjoy the baby bonuses instead.
Donut Supercharged February 13, 2013 Share February 13, 2013 This could be a good start. Better than nothing. Now FT and PR go scot free. But the money has to be governed very carefully. It should only go to NS related matters. And the tax should be a large sum, not just a pinch of salt.

Powercolt Neutral Newbie February 13, 2013 Author Share February 13, 2013 Is it one of the ways to reduce the Defence Budget? This may have multiple implications in future. - Rich S'poreans will choose to pay instead of going to army. - PR and FT will feel that S'poreans shld not complain now and have the right to protect them since they have paid.

Tonyng 4th Gear February 13, 2013 Share February 13, 2013 Can tax. But must be a figure that commensurate with the sweat and toil of a NSMan. Otherwise if just a nominal fee I pay to not serve can?
Nolicense Turbocharged February 13, 2013 Share February 13, 2013 one trick ponies these people.. privatise profits and socialise costs.. no other ideas.. legitamise foreigners' rights in singapore and open a can of worms.. might as well just raise taxes across the board and give NSmen free medical for life
questionedfish Clutched February 13, 2013 Share February 13, 2013 (edited) this is a GOOD idea, but also a BAD idea.. everything also talk $$$ as solution.... Edited February 13, 2013 by Lamzh87

TVT Supercharged February 13, 2013 Share February 13, 2013 Its not a good idea. Many of these PR and foreigners are so rich that paying taxes is nothing to them. The best is to force them to serve NS (I mean PR only). ↡ Advertisement
