Oh well, I still believe in supporting the party that has proven track records. It may not be right all the time but I would rather place my bet on something that's already proven. Afterall, everyone is entitled to his own view right?

now we understand why you lack thought in certain areas and pose such ridiculous comments.

ever heard of the term stockhom syndrome?

once again, yet another stupid PAP conclusion of doom and gloom without much thought

there are many other reasons why singaporeans don't want such jobs, only one of which is that it involves getting your hands dirty

the other reasons include low pay and a huge amount of OT required and both of the reasons were only made worst by importing foreign labour

singapore in the 80s, 90s and early 2000s has never had a problem of low skilled jobs, there were even sole proprietors who opened shops as bakers and plumbers, nursing was a professional job which required many years of education and carried great responsibility.

why is it that only now such jobs were sunned by singaporeans when they were readily taken up previously? you mean in that era, we didn't have toilets, bread, hospitals too?

i remember my fridge spoilt and my mum called a repairman, the repairman was singaporean!

so what is the explanation? why is it countries like USA, UK, europe, australia don't need foreign labour as much as us?

One simple explanation - We did not have as many educated Sinaporeans back then. We have an over-qualified workforce right now. In the past, almost all diploma holders and degree holders-to-be became Commanders when they were serving NS. Now, a lot of them have to serve as Men. Back then, having a hands-on technical job is god sent, now it's not.

And please do not compare with big countries. They have people from different backgrounds to fill up different jobs. They have lots and lots of people for goodness sake.

Yup, maybe I'm suffering from that. Why dont you just migrate elsewhere since you think those places have it better? Who knows it might fit people like you better?

But please dont come back. Ever again.

do you even know how many educated singaporeans are there now?

here read this paper.

http://www.singstat.gov.sg/pubn/papers/peo...p-education.pdf

for benefit of doubt i'm going to consider anything below diploma level as uneducated.

in the year 2000, only 30% of the population is educated

in 2010 by estimation, probably 50% are educated. that would leave us with over 2 million people who are below my education line. so what are these secondary school and ITE grads doing now?

everybody become manager is it?

Well that's true... It's only tough for people who have no market value. Most countries won't accept people who can't contribute to their economy. Well then I think you better stay and help shape Singapore's future.

I have never thought of migrating because I love the way things are in Singapore.

From 30% to 50% --> I would consider that a huge increase! Go check out the stats for other countries and see if they have such good progress. So may I ask you - Do you expect the new 20% "educated" Singaporeans to work on "unwanted" jobs such as technicians and mechanics?

Oh you mean you have a diploma? I'm apalled.

the crux of the point was what are the remaining 50% which accounts for over 2 million people doing

you are right, i'm a diploma holder working as a technician and driving a kia picanto

i belong to the bracket that rich people like you deem as low class and unskilled

but i studied in australia once and i saw how they deemed technicians as people with an honest living

unfortunately in singapore we are consigned to the rubbish bin

Fully understand and share your frustrations.

But like I say, it's easy to criticize existing policies. But it's tough to propose something else that's feasible and will actually work. I have read about some of the "alternative proposals". If implemented, these will lead to other complications.

In Chinese, we say 治镖不治本.

Pray tell woot complications if there is no loans for COE and that dealers are not allowed to proxy bid? People are angry for a reason, which the govt intends to suck their blood. These two policy changes will encourage people to be prudent and not be too indebted to the banks just to buy a car. COE at 100k is nuts. A toyota altis here can buy a Porsche 911 in USA, makes sense to you? If makes sense then you should knock your head to get it working again lol.

Nope, that's not the crux. Your point earlier is that Singapore had no problems with citizens taking up "unwanted" jobs in the past so why now there is?

And my reply to that is simply because we have more educated singaporeans today and they are looking for "better" jobs and are unwilling to take up those jobs anymore.

And you provided the figures to prove my point.

USA vs Singapore. Comparing grape seed to jackfruit. Enough said.

Move to the US then to get your Porsche 911.

how does this change anything? the problem is the rich china chinese who are migrating over.

they can easily afford to pay 100k in cash

your policy will only harm singaporeans who don't have 100k in cash while benefiting those china chinese instead

By the way pureness, you should just go read your very first reply in this thread and tell me whether you have an intention to pick a fight. Then you tell me who is rude and stupid.
