What I know is that boys who are DC by birth cannot enjoy any privileges that a sg citizen will enjoy. THAT includes entering/leaving SG on a SG passport. Somehow, I believe this baby bonus thingy is also considered a SG citizen privilege. otherwise, he will hv to serve NS. If he runs away, he cannot enter SG at all. unless both his parents are not in SG already, he won't need to come to sg.

 

It's really tricky...

If you have served through your NS stint, you would know that regulars are not paid much at the lower-middle ranks. Just enough to get by. If you count the hours they work, per hour they work for far less than most comfy office jobs out there.

 

So very simply all these double standards and loopholes should be stamped out.

loopholes and double standards should be stamped out. you do know that SAF pilots training in US, when their children born there get US citizenship. list goes on.

 

lower-middle ranks? as in 1st SG and below? if you count all the other allowances, its actually a lot more than what many make outside. you cannot compare to office jobs as those jobs are white collar work which always command high salaries.. or are you refering to the low level office staff types? in that case the pay is always stuck around 2-4k. not much better and certainly not much to get by. own lunch, own transport, and own office clothes.

What I disagree with is the 3 year/6 year contract thing. anyway that's another story.

Thats why plus the risks even in peacetime and hours and hardship, as a Combat Engineer my son has to do bridging from morning to morning non-stop on a regular basis all wet all dirty plus shellscrape and all those basics.

 

How many people will want to do those happily? You already complain cleaning as a dirty job

Nope. I had a friend who was DC at birth. He got all the benefits of a SG boy. He went for NS for about 1 year then chose to be a US citizen instead. They just discharge him immediately lo.

sorry for the late reply.. what I meant was a DC by birth can enjoy all the benefits of a SGporean.. but he will have to do NS; unless he choose to renounce SG. like your friend.

 

i read up about cases of parents who even go through means not to enjoy any benefits.. so their son is not liable for NS...
