Throttle2 Supersonic January 28, 2013 Share January 28, 2013 (edited) Note that there are luxury coupes and there are real sports coupes. Depends on which kind you talking about. As I just read that you are looking at GTR, I think it's a great choice as a family car. The rear is spacious and the ride is still pretty comfy overall. That was one of my early choices too but I just couldnt get over the Japanese label when I could have a premium continental one. No offence plse, I do like the GTR. Anyway, I support your move to get a coupe as a family car. Go for it. Otherwise go for 4dr coupe which I did as well previously. CLS350, Panamera, 640i.... Throttle2 Supersonic January 28, 2013 Share January 28, 2013 (edited) Good eg, RX8..can die die only sit 4. I think its not a good choice for those with 2children, ie family of 4. Want to squeeze another (mother-in law, mother, grandfather, whoever) in also cannot. Looking at the Evoque..such a beauty. If objective is to take loads of people, I suggest you get a minibus. Goldenchipmunk Neutral Newbie January 28, 2013 Share January 28, 2013 neither of us can beat one of my business acquaintance's story ... he bought a ferrari 430 (he himself about 40+) and he took his dad to work the next morning in the ferrari to show him the car. (dad about 70ish) ... after 2 or 3 hard acceleration, the old man told him to stop the car, he got out, scold his son for being an idiot, and waited for a cab by the roadside ... If your friend took his GF or mistress to work using this car, will b a different story😜

Kspchew 2nd Gear January 29, 2013 Share January 29, 2013 Hi bros, I want to ask those own a 4 seater coupes, how big is your family? Do you think its pratical to have a family with 2 children (no maid) to own a 4 seater coupe? Only wife and me, 80% of the time, I am alone. Only weekend, then bring parents out, so far so good. No complaint yet.
Akiyo Clutched January 29, 2013 Share January 29, 2013 (edited) Brudder, 2+2 is 4 seater too..... Rx8 is technically a 4 door. The definition of coupe has inevitably changed with times and there are different types of coupe nowadays. RX8 is known as a quad coupe while some even call it a 2+2 coupe or true 4-seater coupe. BRZ can be considered as a 2 door coupe or 2+2 coupe as well. For me, the rear seats of the BRZ are more cramped and have lesser head and leg room. Thus, some even suggested might as well go for a 2-seater or a real 4-seater coupe instead. My point is that it really depends on the driver's needs and preferences at the end of the day. And, there's really no such thing as pretending or not. Jeremy Clarkson once commented that RX8 has all the benefits of a coupe with none of its drawbacks, and all the practicality of a sedan with none of its tedium. I'm sure that may also apply to coupes similar to the RX8, whether they are the more powerful/more luxurious versions, or the more affordable ones. My 0.5 cent worth. Peace. Sp4wn Turbocharged January 29, 2013 Share January 29, 2013 Let me offer you my side of the story. While having a family of 4 I have had a 6er and am currently on a 911. Suits my family fine I have always looked for a coupe to fit my family of 4. My next car is is also likely to be a coupe. Could be a 911 turbo or maybe a MaserGT or a 640i cab? I think it is very suitable if you can accept the slight bit of inconvenience. And if your family is not too big sized I don't bring people around except my own family so suits us fine. Moreover Singapore is small, most journeys for me don't exceed 30mins. My kids fit perfectly behind and it's really fun driving a coupe. (Kia koup not counted hor..haha) If want to ferry people around, better go get an MPV or something. There are quite a few coupes which have very reasonable space at the back. Eg. The BMWs and the Mercys as well as Maser and Bentley and GTR 911 only if your kids are under 10 and your wife is supermodel slim like mine. Hee bro, only want to tell us the last point right? ;) den again, heng my gf slim also ... wonder if i will keep the car after kids though. have to see that time i guess

Akiyo Clutched January 29, 2013 Share January 29, 2013 (edited) i actually own a 2+2 & my bro's a 4 seater coupe & sis has a sedan that why i know exactly how these car segment are defined Well, I also have a 4-seater coupe and drove a sedan before. And, a few of my buddies have 2+2 coupes. I'm not saying that I know more or you know less, I'm just saying that these days, the definition of the 'real' coupe has been blurred. Things have moved on with time, considering the market and needs. Each type of car, or coupe for that matter, has its strengths and weakness and they attract different types of customers and fans. For example, just because my rear seats are small and pretty useless doesn't make my 2+2 better or worse than another type of coupe. Different strokes for different folks.
