After having experiences with 2nd hand car dealers, if I ever need to get 2nd car I would get it from AD pre-owned unit, albeit more expensive. If you read my older post I have issues when I bought my ride from a 2nd hand car dealer last time. After that when I sold off my ride to another dealer (quite good reviews one), no issues for me but the dealer went to tampered the mileage - just like what someone mentioned here on one of the post. This goes to show how shady the 2nd hand car industry can get.

@thebestbees @Ct3833  I see, thanks for the input, I rather pay a higher depre for a peace of mind 😅.

One of my colleagues did not due his DD (PPI and all) when buying from one of the dealers at the turf club, PARF car somemore, one month in some sensors faulty and engine rattling sound, he went to outside workshop to fix and I think he was quoted around 5k+,, turns out the dealer "erased" away the fault codes when showing him to assure him... scary

Any workshop names to drop so newbies like us can avoid?

SG Car Mart used car warranty is deceiving.  On the website it states that it will cover any issues relating to engine, transmission & drive axle.
I had purchased a 2 year warranty on my 2nd hand Alphard car.

See website here : https://www.sgcarmart.com/warranty/index.php?

But unfortunately, last week when my car was brought in to Ricardo Auto for transmission problems - they refused and said that the warranty
does not cover it and asked me to pay 4k for the repairs. They said that the problematic parts were not covered under the warranty.

On the website & dealers did not mention any further criteria and asked to read the fine print. There were none. In fact, they claim that is a hassle
free process and covered up to 10k.

Email, msgs and calls to SG car mart warranty dept have remained unanswered. I believe that this is a scam run by SG carmart and Ricardo auto.
They make it compulsory to service your car at Ricardo - which charges double or triple the amount from other car service centers - and then deny
your warranty claims.

Would appreciate any help on this matter. Thanks

sorry to hear that. i went through something similar. paid close to 30k to 2 workshops in SG and one in JB. finally the car is ok but mileage is very poor.

Dealer buys back problematic car from customer – and puts it back on sale

https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/transport/dealer-buys-back-problematic-car-from-customer-and-puts-it-back-on-sale

SINGAPORE - A motorist whose second-hand car gave him problems from the start – including stalling three times and emitting smoke from under the bonnet – had his day in court when the dealer offered to buy the vehicle back.

But now, that same car is back on sale.

Mr Daniel Watts, 44, a trade manager with a multinational corporation here, had bought a 5½-year-old Ssangyong Tivoli 1.6 from authorised agent Motorway Ssangyong on June 22, 2022, for $46,500. The car’s trip meter said it had clocked 75,400km, lower than the average car of a similar age.

Three days after the compact crossover was collected, its Check Engine warning light came on. Mr Watts contacted the salesperson, who told him to carry on driving. By mid-August that year, the warning was still on, but the salesperson repeated the same advice, adding that there was nothing to worry about.

In November, Mr Watts took it back to Motorway to fix a steering issue. The car also underwent servicing, even though it was not due for it.

The engine warning went away but returned in December.

Then in April 2023, the air-conditioning stopped working. Mr Watts had that rectified, but the Check Engine light still stayed on.............
