Walterwu 1st Gear July 17, 2013 Share July 17, 2013 (edited) 80K km is a fair amount of adjustment. How old was the car when you bought it? Was there no visible sign of wear etc? I don't quite follow you on the 80K km being a fair amount of adjustment. Tampering with odometer (upstream before purchase) from 140,000 down to 60,000 km is fair to mislead buyers? Tampering with odometer (upstream before purchase) from 140,000 down to 60,000 km is fair to mislead buyers? Sorry about my English, I meant 'fair' in the context of 'quite a bit'. Definitely not 'fair' as in 'reasonable'. Apologies for my bad grammar! 80K adjustment is a definite no-no and I think they owe you an explanation (at least). The problem is the dealer can always pass the blame onto the previous owner, then it becomes difficult to establish the offender.
Walterwu 1st Gear July 18, 2013 Share July 18, 2013 SgCarMart can help by not purging the stated mileage upon "SOLD" status update. I noticed once a car is updated as "SOLD", the asking price and staged milestone is purged automatically.
Walterwu 1st Gear July 18, 2013 Share July 18, 2013 It has been 2 days and they (InCarz) have not got back to me on their investigation as to who tampered with the odometer. Hopefully, they can do so by tomorrow.
Xienqi Neutral Newbie July 19, 2013 Share July 19, 2013 HI, Just want to update all on my car buying from my earlier post. After spending about 3 months going through the sgcarmart, reading the forum contributions, I bought my Volvo XC90 on Wednesday. I went to see total of 3 volvos on that day and finally settled for one unit at D'Cars at Commonwealth Lane. The salesman Kelvin Quek was good and honest with me. Their boss seems to be a decent person also. After the visual checks, and comparing with the other 2 units seen, I felt comfortable with the car, and paid cash for it without any inspection test. Collected the car 2 hours later because had to wait for insurance coverage. I would say the experience was positive and the most important thing is that I sent in the car to Wearnes yesterday for an inspection and maintenance and got a clean report from the AD. The car though an old unit, 2005, is in a good condition and the engine is smooth and everything works. Note that I do not know D'Cars prior, and have no relations with the sales or anyone there. However, I feel that we should support honest and worthy used car companies so that this would in turn encourage other used car companies to follow, and thereby benefiting all of us. I will definitely buy from them again.

As a reference.. sg drivers usually clock 20k a year on avg. So you should expect to see mileage (age X 20k) on a used car. If the mileage is too far off, most of the time its been tampered. Recently view a few 4-5years cars with 60k mileage and it always seem to good to be true.

Hosaybo 6th Gear July 20, 2013 Share July 20, 2013 Yes, could be true that there are low mileage but not base on what you see on the odometer. Unless there is consistent agent servicing records over the whole period, i will be very doubtful.

Chapter1_andy 1st Gear July 25, 2013 Share July 25, 2013 Same thing I will say to car buyers - send to STA for inspection first before buying. If the car dealer don't allow, then say bye bye to them (they can close down le).
Mits_jc 5th Gear July 25, 2013 Share July 25, 2013 I bought a '07 honda jazz recently (I'm the third owner). The mileage was adjusted down by at least 40k. No surprise as I expected it already, take those low mileage cars u see on advert with a pinch of salt. Like most have mentioned, 20-25k per year for majority of sg cars is a rule of thumb. I, recently, bought a second-hand car from InCarz of Commonwealth Avenue less then 2 months ago. I sent it recently to the authorised dealer workshop today and found that the car's odometer had been adjusted from 140,000 in Sep-2012 (last service record) to about 60,000+ at point of purchase. I'm waiting for InCarz to contact me as to who tampered with the odometer.

CYHew 3rd Gear July 25, 2013 Share July 25, 2013 It has been close to a year since the "lemon law" for consumers came into effect, and the Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE) said 13 cases out of 363 were not resolved and had to be taken to the Small Claims Tribunal. SINGAPORE: It has been close to a year since the "lemon law" for consumers came into effect, and the Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE) said 13 cases out of 363 were not resolved and had to be taken to the Small Claims Tribunal. Mr Cheong had bought a second-hand car for S$52,000 from a dealership at Sin Ming Drive. However, he discovered there were problems with the car engine a month later. After unsuccessful attempts in getting the car dealership to repair it, Mr Cheong sought help from CASE. After five months without resolution, he paid S$3,600 for his car to be repaired first, and then turned to the small claims tribunal. He said: "After the consultation, the judge ordered the dealer to pay me S$1,000... To date, they still haven't paid me yet." The car dealership said it felt that the amount spent to repair the car was too much, and that it was filing an appeal. CASE said the majority of lemon law cases involve second-hand cars. Seah Seng Choon, executive director of CASE, said: "Most of the cases are settled in favour of the consumers. In order to get their money back, the retailer must comply with the judgment and if they refuse to comply, I think the consumer has a recourse. They can go back to the small claims tribunal and engage a bailiff to enforce the judgement." - CNA/ac CASE should publish the names of these dealers to shame them in public and deter public from patronising them ↡ Advertisement
