If I were you,

1. I would have just asked the driver if he was waiting for that lot when I went side by side with him.

2. If I did not do 1) above, if I saw him eying the lot, I would have just moved away from that scene looking for another lot

Why to fight lah? we have other issues to worry about! Just be cool and enjoy your driving! [wave]

yea, we have more impt defense of BMW here cf fighting over a lot [laugh] [laugh] [laugh]

Good morning to all, got involved in this so called carpark rage this morning and would like to seek advice from seniors here.

I was looking for a carpark lot near henderson market this morning. As i was moving ahead in the long stretch of open air carpark, i noticed a taxi preparing to move out from one of the lots, however before i approach that "potential lot", a Fiat goods vehicle was stationary( about 4 lots away from the potential lot) along the road without hazard lights on. I decided to overtake the goods vehicle and stop just ahead of that potential lot where the taxi was about to move out, put on hazard lights and engage reverse gear to standby for a reverse parking procedure, as i was just about to reverse in, the goods veheicle sped up, horned me to signal its displeasure. This later brought about a quarrel over the lot between me and the driver.

After this incident, i felt that i might have prevented it by just stoping beside the goods vehicle to check its intention before proceeding on as a act of courtesy. however, since he there was no hazards lights on or whatsoever to signal its intention, can i assume i have to right of way to overtake it and park into the lot? Whos is right and who is wrong here?

Wish to seek advice from you guys here. Many thanks!

I dono about the rest, but I would see that as snatching lot.

To me, the nearest waiting person has the 'right' to that lot. Unless he tell you he doesn't want it, den you can take it.

Normally if I am leaving my lot, I will signal to the nearest person waiting and signal to him to my lot. So atleast nearby ppl know that my lot is going to be given to someone else.

i see your point bro, but when its about 4 lots away in which i could comfortably overtake n move abit of distance ahead..i felt it was abit of a grey area. Nevertheless, good practice to signal to the waiting person when leaving the lot. [scholar]

Going by this and your other post, I'm guessing you thought, even after the van let you know he wanted the lot, you think you are "entitled" to the lot, and tried to argue such with the van driver.

He was pretty clearly there first, and you tried to take "his" lot - I think you were in the wrong here, and should just have moved on without trying to argue the point.
