300km+ talk so long and take forever to build.

China already build thousands and thousands kilometres.

Last year took HSR between shanghai and beijing was very impressed. No different from Japan Shinkansen and Germany ICE.

haha you guys do realise that the train builders for the china trains are very likely the ones that provided the cracked train bodies for SMRT?  [laugh]

yeah their train system is impressive.

Turbocharged

KL offers cheap food and shopping, so it benefits Singapore more than the Malaysians. Hope it can complete sooner than later.

as long as they dun kidnap you, just bargain on the agree fare. In KL Sentral station is much better, you go to the counter and tell them the destination, you pay at the counter and get the coupon and pass it to the taxi driver, as most 10% higher than the meter.

the whole hsr consist of 330km with only 15km stretch into jurong e.

its quite firmed that constructions from jurong e into jb would be most probably covered by red dot (both installation technology & financing)

maybe stretch a lil'bit into iskandar sine quite a bit share there comes from local investors

the rest from iskandar into kl are solely covered by bolehland (both installation, operations & maintenance + financing)

y'see, ah jib kor needs mr ping's signatutre to kickstart this project in order to make the hefty loan

especially if borrower could be asia fundings where red dot has a say in it.

moreover, this loan may even stretch if bolehland decides to extend into kedah or upnorth . . . .

but does this hsr really economically sustainable?

yes only if airflights are cut off tremendously

but there have been so many many domestical flights in bolehland these days!

probably its worthwhile for business travels on that express line

the domestic line, would be subsidized by their local gahmen, may not even open to us

most importantly if we go into bolehland for leisure, and driving is still worthwhile coz all leisure spots there are only reachable by cars!

installation to execution phases should be ok since implementation funds is secured

but when sustainability fails due to poor riderships, the high operating costs especially maintenance cost could be compromised

and when reliability drops with incidents (hopefully not accidents) . . . . especially the whole deal is covered by them

Go around & ask ppl in KL.  Other than self drive, the next best option is uber.

Recently, KL radio DJ wrote on this FB about bad attitude of taxi counter in Sentral.  He TL & use uber.

Acherlee... can anyone list out the economic benefit that either countries will enjoy from the HSR?

I, for one, fail to see much benefit and returns of investment from such a venture.

i'm skeptical on the ridership SG <> KL HSR

yes, a lot of sinkies go to msia during long holiday and festival but not for business travellers

Korea, Taiwan, Japan, China & Europe HSR is sucessful simply because of its population that generate the demand

by 2030 if spore reach 10M population ... i guess there is some support to HSR market

for msia domestic route ... i still believe driving is the best option ie: Johor > Melaka > Seremban > KL

Go & check the number of flight btw KL & SIN daily.

KL - SIN is the last route to open up to other other airline because of the frequency.

yeah ... good point [thumbsup]

so HSR and SG<>KL shuttle flight will fight for the same pie of customers ;)

In march, I was in KL. Never used taxis to get around. Its monorail or the free shuttle bus. I didnt know they had free shuttle bus until the locals told us.

More movement of people = more movement of capital = more business opportunities.

Especially if the movement was due to business ventures.

Why does SG establish trading links worldwide?

Land scarce, some land and labour intensive industries can relocate North while the capital and expertise intensive industries can move South. Mitigating the causeway gridlock traffic can help make the decisions. Buy a car in Malaysia and run the business there. If need to can HSR back to SG.

Other benefits are for those seriously considering retirement options in Malaysia.

I thinked Najib said the tender was fair & transparent, he is saying the cost of HSR is shared half-half between SG/KL, fair right??

Noooooo!

as said, the stretchof 15km from jurong e to iskandar (not there yet but mostly be stretched) by SQ,

the rest of the >300km is solely by MH . . .

that's why khaw mentioned that its fair that everything from implementation to executions, from operation to services are all covered by boleh!

This is all fair and good....but the question really is the economic benefits justifiable by the billions expected to pump into it?
