Jurong Region Line announced

The Jurong Region Line (JRL), which will serve residents in Choa Chu Kang, Boon Lay and future developments in the Tengah area, will have 24 stations and open in three phases starting from 2026.

The 24km-line, which will be above ground entirely, will also link up to the North-South Line at Choa Chu Kang and the East-West Line at Boon Lay.

Details of the island's seventh MRT line were announced on Wednesday (May 9) by Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan, who said the JRL will improve the resilience of the entire MRT network.

finally MRT to NTU!! and  why got station at peng kang hill

This jurong line will only be ready at least 8 years from now! They say building this line is to relieve train loading between CCK and JE stations so commuters can have more comfortable rides. Now then they realise train loading is high between these station?

Opening the immigration tap is easy when most of the lower SES immigrant workers finding jobs in the west and consequently stays in the Jurong region.........it might be easier and faster to just cull the population...... [knife]

Canberra MRT station on track to open by December next year

SINGAPORE: The new Canberra MRT station is on track to be completed by December next year, Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan said during a visit to the station’s worksite on Wednesday (May 9).

The station is located between Sembawang and Yishun stations, under the North-South Line. It will serve commuters living in nearby estates such as Sembawang Springs, as well as upcoming residential developments in Canberra.

When the station is completed, another 17,000 households will be within a 10-minute walk from an MRT station, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said. These commuters will also be able to cut 10 minutes from their journey when travelling to the city centre or Jurong East.

The station will have five entrances linking it to new housing estates and an elevated link bridge across Canberra Link for commuters to directly access the city-bound train platform.

It will also have covered linkways to bus stops, pick-up and drop-off points, as well as more than 500 bicycle parking lots.

BUILT ON TOP OF “LIVE” MRT LINE

Canberra is the second MRT station to be built on an existing MRT line, with the first being Dover. LTA said it had to implement measures to ensure the safety of the North-South Line’s existing structures while minimising disruptions to train services.

“As you can imagine, such projects are not easy to do. Ages ago I had an open heart surgery and surgeon asked me there are two ways to do. One is a very traditional open-heart method ... there’s another way which is you let the heart continue to beat and then you do the sewing while the heart is beating.

“And this (Canberra station) is something like open heart surgery. This is called the beating heart method. It can be done, but of course it’s very challenging,” said Mr Khaw.

To protect the railway tracks and running trains during the construction of the station roof, a temporary enclosure was erected to cover the tracks. Thereafter, “V-columns” were erected at the platform level to support the roof trusses, which have all been installed.

The station is 55 per cent completed, and all structural works will be completed in the third quarter of this year, LTA said. After completing structural works, LTA will fit out the architectural finishes and install electrical and mechanical services before it starts running tests.

Should call it the "$8 station" since his heart surgery only cost him $8 to do.

I am worry for the current Jurong East station, think even now the station already overloaded. Dont know how the station can cope with the coming HSR plus this Jurong Region Line? Anyway, where is this place Tawas station? If opening so many MRT lines in future, it means they can bring in 6.9mill or even more population liao.

Need money to do

Need money to do? Or they are poor in planning? Only when problem surface and out of control then they do something about it?!  [rolleyes]

After a $8 Cardiac bypass surgery means he is well qualified to use the heart surgery as an analogy? [rolleyes]

Is he really that stupid as to bring up the $8 heart surgery again... Or is he so out of touch with reality..

I think they will have to expand the station liken to be likes of Buona Vista station but everything above ground since the Jurong Region is built above ground. HSR is in another location but walking distance from JE mrt station. I think should be ok in terms of infrastructure but population wise....yeah, will be damn overcrowded. I dunno about the rest.

Even the HSR is in another location, but more people will take train at the current Jurong East station which i really dont know if the station can handle? Like i said, even you see the current capacity loading in Jurong East station simply overloaded liao, esp during the peak hours. Only one escalator going up and down to access one platform which i find cannot handle lo. Dont know how they are going to expand the current Jurong East station since the surrounding is already packed with so many buildings.

That MRT station is meant for maid. NSF will still travel on foot to the base of the hill (without full pack and kits), then link up with the maid to "collect" their standard items (machiam replenishment by logistics unit), before charging up the hill. In this way, the NSF should be able to perform better and less risk of heat injury. That is part of 4G (or was it 5G) army strategies... :D

As to improving train resilience, the new network provide "more options" for commuters traveling to some stations (e.g. Choa Chua Kang) along NS & EW line, so that in case of any breakdown, commuters can carry on their journey using the next available line. In a nut shell, something like buying >1 car, so that when the 1st car breakdown, still have 2nd car as back up. [shakehead]  [shakehead]

No no, should name the station after him, KBW Station, so that resident can remember his contribution to the public transport scene... [nod]

This is the purpose of linking all the different MRT line together? For the purpose of any breakdown? And not for the purpose of faster, shorter and reliable train ride? Lol. Anyway, if they cannot build and maintain a reliable train system, no point having to build so many MRT lines. Train/line breakdown still continue to happen often, even we have 100 MRT lines also useless.

Got one Tuakang station. [laugh]

Quite common name among dialect names for places.

There's a district in taichung that also has the same name.
