So he can chut pattern and publish the letter he sent to WP, to make WP look bad for being uncooperative. Plan backfire, now it's CSJ look bad.

SDP knew WP would rebuff plan, says Chee

by Tan Weizhen 04:45 AM Jan 15, 2013

SINGAPORE - After going public with its correspondence with the Workers' Party (WP) - which showed the WP continually ignoring its overtures to come to the negotiating table - Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) Secretary-General Chee Soon Juan said yesterday that the party "knew all along" that its proposal to WP will be rebuffed.

The SDP had proposed that the two parties jointly campaign in the Punggol East by-election, field an SDP candidate and have the WP run the town council, or vice versa.

By introducing its candidate yesterday afternoon, the WP formally rebuffed the SDP's proposal. "We knew that all along, we are going to just have to do it, do whatever we have decided and go on," said Dr Chee. He was speaking to reporters last night, after a two-and-a-half hour meeting at the SDP headquarters to select the party's candidate for the coming polls.

Dr Chee said that choosing a candidate was a "difficult decision", but he declined to elaborate. Details would be revealed at a press conference today, he said.

Of the SDP members likely to be fielded, only SDP Treasurer Vincent Wijeysingha - who contested in the 2011 General Election (GE) - was present at the meeting yesterday. Medical doctor Paul Tambyah, also touted as a potential candidate, was not present in the evening or earlier meetings held in the afternoon. Contacted by TODAY, Dr Tambyah nevertheless said he would be present at the press conference today.

When contacted, SDP member Ang Yong Guan - who was among the names thrown up by the media - said he decided not to be in the running because "there are already enough good candidates".

Asked what he thought of the WP's decision to ignore the SDP's overtures, Dr Ang said he was not surprised, adding of their decision to field Ms Lee Li Lian: "It's brilliant as they can leverage on the 41 per cent (the percentage of votes that Ms Lee garnered in the last GE), so they are putting up a familiar face. They also show they aren't worried about the credentials of (PAP candidate) Dr Koh (Poh Koon)."

If he knew WP would rebuff and still went ahead to propose, it just means he is using it as a strategy to create ill feelings of resentment among opp supporters against WP.

From CNA. My comments in red

SINGAPORE: The Singapore Democratic Alliance (SDA) has chosen Mr Desmond Lim Bak Chuan as its candidate for the Punggol East by-election.

It said in a statement on Tuesday that its campaign slogan for Mr Lim is 'Dedicated Local, Determined Leader'.

'Dedicated Local, Determined Leader Loser'

It added that Mr Lim is "armed to make a difference and cause potential ripples on the grounds of Punggol East".

Ripples of laughter .....

On why he's making a comeback despite his defeat in the 2011 General Election, where he lost his election deposit of S$16,000, Mr Lim said the experience boosted his determination to come back bigger and better.

Tua pui lo cannot believe he got beat by tua neh bu

"Ordinarily, another person in my shoes would throw in the towel after the forfeit, and swear off politics. But for me, that incident boosted my determination to come back bigger and better the next round," he said in the statement.

Thank you for your contribution to nation building

The SDA said Mr Lim's 'Never Say Die' attitude has earned him a place in the hearts of many Punggol East residents.

About 4.5% to be precise

He'll reach out to residents with a personal approach.

yeah it backfired on him...he knew that if his party take part, they will be blamed for causing the multi corner fight. so his strategy was that he will make public that he is calling upon WP to work out a way to avoid a 3 corner fight and since WP rebuff his approach, he will use it to make it appear that WP is aloof and the one who is not prepared to work towards a win win solution for both. in the process, he hope the blame will be diverted away from his party instead. actually it was not a total failure. I think there was some murmurs among the community that WP should have responded to the invite. but of course there are likely to be the minority. CSJ is made to look bad for making a daft proposal that makes him look ridiculous.

just curious,

if for some reason it is now SDP vs PAP

will you all still prefer SDP?

Sad to say this, but between SDP & PAP, PAP is the lesser of the 2 evil.

SDP is going down till the day CSJ left the party for good.

IMHO, I have a pretty good impression of the slate which SDP puts up in recent times. They recruited Prof Tambyah, a senior consultant in infectious diseases and for me Vincent and Dr Ang are two prized catch as well. They have also came up with a variety of proposals on healthcare and housing of which some have drawn good reviews from political analysts and even some senior individuals formerly from the public sector. I would consider voting for them if one of their high profile candidate gets fielded against PAP. But I have been left baffled at the antics of Dr Chee in the current saga. I thought it actually puts the party in a bad light and make me reconsider. [:(]

WP could have asked him back the same proposal see if he would take it.

Honestly, i don't know what are his real intentions as what he did so far are contradicting and controversial.

Sounds like an ego-maniac who already lost his mind or rather, indulging in his own naivety in a little world only known to him.

Even if he is a true genius and his confrontational style of politics is way ahead of what the rest of the opposition can offer, he should already be aware that Singaporeans generally do not take too kindly to this approach. Hell, he has been sued how many times before and yet, he still doesn't learn his lesson?

No wonder there are rumours from the grapevine that he has been bankrolled secretly by the PAP. :D
