I read somewhere before, when adjust the side mirror, just see a slight portion of your car will do, all the blind spot are solved provided mirror is not those long side perpendicular to the ground.

It works perfectly but still I will tilt head to check will be safest.

indeed...me driving for >20 years...i will still make it a habit to turn my head to look at blind spot even if the side mirroe tell me it cleared...it just a matter of seconds...and it improve blood circulation around the neck too...so why not...... [laugh]

Supercharged

The image is too small, if a black car don't turn on light at night fall into the blindspot will most likely be missed. It's better to check mirror and turn head when turning or change lane.

yeah... especially so for motorbikes...

thats y sometimes i find myself staring into the mirror for longer than i should... need to improve my techniques thou so far so good for the past 10yrs...

Some mirror can cover the whole blind spot easy, you should try it, staring at blind spot mirror will make you missed whats infront of you. Turn head is best.

Nowadays at all junction or filter lanes, I will make my eye balls move left and right multiple times, I'm really scare of pedestrian crossing without due care... "Best" is I ever encounter a FT happen to be black, cycling at opposite direction of the flow in the middle of road, no lights nothing, dull colour shirt.... I almost knock him down if I didn't look...

why so hard to turn your head for a second to look into the blind spots?...

With the mirrors (see my pic above), if there are cars, then no need to turn my head first. If there are no cars in the blind mirrors, then I will still turn my head to check before filtering.

There is a better technique to adjust the rear mirror to avoid blind spot.

Presented in the SAE conference long ago but I can't remember the time. This method really works and I've been using it for years!

For your right (driver side mirror):

1. Lean your head again the window and now adjust the mirror until you see the side of the car.

2. If you adjust it correctly, you will not see the side of your car/door when your head is in the normal driving position! You will see the center lane instead.

For your left (passenger side mirror):

1. Lean your head to the center of the car and now adjust the mirror until you see the side of your car.

2. If you adjust it correctly, you will not see the side of your car/door when your head is in the normal driving position. You will see the next lane or the side walk!

Now drive along a straight road and take note when a car is in view of your rear view mirror on the center lane. As the car approach you and pass you on your right, the car will appear immediately on your side mirror when it is out of view of the rear view mirror! Similarly for the left mirror. Play around a little to get a little overlap and you are set. It appears unnerving initially when you want to switch lane, but within a day or two, you will have confidence! Try it and you will never need those ugly attachment or taxi driver rear view mirror!

cheers!

I learnt this from Asiaone forum and have been using this for many years. So far so good!

For me, I would adjust side mirror as far out as possible till can only see very little side of my car. Than I try to also adjust not too downwards and adjust upwards, which can give me see vehicles further ahead behind but at compromise of not able to see kerb, so at times when I need to squeeze through left filter lane, I would need to rely on my estimation to make sure rim don't strike the kerb. [laugh][laugh]

It works well for me as I will be able to see wider angle and cover more blindspot area. Another thing is that when I chance lane, I make sure I position my car not too diagonal as too diagonal will have bigger blindspot as compared to as parallel up as adjacent lane as possible. This save me an near miss with motorbike next to me as when I lane change I very fast can see motobike right at my blindspot due to the mirror angle and parallel up closer to motobike and thus I able to let motobike pass and I continue to lane change.

Okay, i have decided and bought a pair of those round blind spot mirror that can be pasted onto the side mirrors from NTUC Xtra this afternoon. Anyone can advise me whether it's better to paste the blind spot mirrors inner/outer and top/bottom? I am thinking of inner bottom. Please advise [:)]

seriously i saw a lot of ppl paste inner bottom/top, i tink a bit stupid... wat can u see by pasting them inside? i paste mine outer bottom and adjusted mirror to only see a tiny bit of my car body...

note: blind spot mirror is for u to see blindspot, if paste inner and defect the purpose i rather u not paste...

There are those clip-on type, very easy to mount it on. I saw it in Giant. Some have 2 mirrors, one is showing the ground, another is the blind spot.

But I just wonder if put on will it increase the FC when the mirror increases the wind drag on our vehicle?

Yr fc increase by at least 15-20%.
