Kb27 Supersonic May 1, 2018 Share May 1, 2018 Let's revisit the usb car charger. With the newer phones that many people have, you'll probably find a Snapdragon inside, which supports Qualcomm Quick Charge https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quick_Charge Now, we don't just look at 2.4A or 1.2A printed on the usb charger, we look at the wattage. Bcuz usb is no longer just 5V, it can do 9V, 12V with quick charge. That means a 9V, 2A charger can produce 18W, as compared to a 5V, it needs to produce 3.6A for 18W. The newer phones sucks power as can be seen by the size of the battery. So if you have one of the phones listed https://www.qualcomm.com/solutions/mobile-computing/features/quick-charge you should be looking at the quick charge charger. I have a LG G4, but running one app drains the battery faster than it can charge, using a regular 5V, 2.4A (12W) car charger. It's probably sucking up 14~15W. thereby causing the deficit in charge, and subsequently the phone would just shutdown due to battery drained with that app running. When I use the LG AC usb charger, it's putting out 9V instead of 5V, (as measured by a usb tester) and thus can quick charge the battery in a shorter time. ↡ Advertisement
