Jman888 Moderator January 3, 2013 Share January 3, 2013 I suspect two components of the tender (eg River Cruises and Harbour Cruises) or two different components of the income stream (or possibly land rental for the ticketing booths and water rental for the river?) could be one for the water taxi service and the other for tourist. ↡ Advertisement

Darryn Turbocharged January 3, 2013 Share January 3, 2013 Have you wonder why some MIW MPs hold numerous directorships? To be frank, there is two reasons for this a) There is no doubting that our MPs are genuinely talented people that can add value in many areas with strong analytical abilities. This is quite straightforward, and anyway who tries to claim otherwise is deluding themselves. So former / current MPs would be a value add to most companies, even if they weren't MPs b) This is a bit murkier - I suspect that many folk "chase" MPs to be on their board because of the implied credibility and endorsement. Nothing says "I am a reputable company" quite so convincingly as having a "govt representative" (or someone that is seen as a govt representative) on the board. This is quite outside any actual (or deliberate) wrongdoing or intention to do wrong on the part of either party. It is kinda like hiring a celebrity spokesperson. There is, of course, those that will chase an MP to be on the board specifically for the network they bring with them, which is also not wrong. Some people will also treat a company differently if they see an MP on the board, even if the MP is totally scrupulous in the way that he behaves - this is the hardest thing for an MP to protect against. Jman888 Moderator January 3, 2013 Share January 3, 2013 for the little info i know about this river cruise/taxi business, it was never easy in the early day and no operators wants to take the job which STB is promoting, and there are not many players in this field, whatever the result, someone will sure cry foul and unfair. since it is for a contract period of 3+3, no one will keep the business to themselve for too long (like everyone take turn) :D
Darryn Turbocharged January 3, 2013 Share January 3, 2013 only tender price is revealed, hard to draw conclusion Amen to that! Based on the tenders I have seen in the past, it's pretty common for GEBIZ to break it down into separate components rather than a lump sum - as to exactly what the components are, is pure speculation without the tender doc. Tenders always go beyond only price - as they should. Have you ever participated in a govt tender before? The team, the track-record, the price, what you are promising all play into it. Especially for this sort of thing where delivery is subjective. Would be willing to bet that the tender also called for information on how the services were going to be promoted, what sort of vehicles used, service standards etc etc - not so easy to evaluate on only price. Porker Turbocharged January 3, 2013 Share January 3, 2013 (edited) why tender got 2 prices (a) and (b)? SEN is (a) 101k and (b) 91k GYP is (a) 88k and (b) 88k Probably an alternative option with differing requirements. Nothing out of the ordinary for tenders to have optional offers. Just like paying what $50 to enter HC and then got different service options to choose from Edited January 3, 2013 by Porker

Darryn Turbocharged January 3, 2013 Share January 3, 2013 I've been a part of quite a few marketing / pr / advertising / event tenders from GEBIZ. They are ALWAYS more about what you are offering than the price. And the price variations submitted are always huge. And the submissions are always "multi-component", so a tender winner might be strong in one area, but weak in another. Its the way the system works. Which is why, unless I saw the tender specs and the actual submissions in this case I absolutely see nothing at all wrong with the highest, lowest, most, least, loudest, brightest or any other tenderer winning or not winning the tender. Let's face it, its a new service, that includes a lot of different things. NOBODY here is in a position to judge which is the most appropriate submission - and until you know more about the actual submissions its a totally pointless exercise to even speculate on who is, or isn't on the board.
