Any Audi A4 owners need feedback

I had gearbox problem in my 3rd year, thank goodness it was still under warranty and I had to pay nothing. My ride was a A4B8 model, 1.8T.

Overall, I was happy with the car. Maintenance cost is on the high side but excellent after sales service (as long as it's not with the claims department).

Kind of tired. Since that day a few years ago when I sat in my ex-colleague's A4, have been wanted to own one, never mind if it is resale. It will cost more but for a shorter period of 2-3 years for trying, instead of buying brand new which costs more and depreciates fast in the first 2 years. I am only concerned about maintenance and repair cost as conti's tend to have more problems in their later years compared to Jpn. True?

I also heard of cases where gear boxes giving problems on Audi's. Are these common or happened occasionally?

Thanks to everyone's contributions.

I am driving a 3 year plus A4. Maintenance cost will be slightly higher than Jap cars, if you do it outside.

If you service it at PA, then it would be quite expensive.

Good nice car. go for it.

IMHO, I can easily fit 2 large suitcases into the A4 and still have spare for smaller bags.

try doing that in the BMW 3 series <_<

A4 is laking some compartments. For b6/b7 model, the cup holder is kinda nuisance. The idea is good, but u will easily spill ur drinks.

Engine nothing to shout about. And careful with the newer model with DSG. transmission is VAG's achiless heel.

U should go vagsg forum. More info there.

The older a4 that you are looking at is the b7 model, not b8 which is the current one. Relatively reliable, though don't expect it to offer Toyota level of low maintenance.

Servicing u can go outside workshop, bring ur own parts from stockist. Quite ok one.

i wanted to buy one a year ago....test drove it...but the space put me off....too small for my liking...

For its class (b8) and compared to its competitors when it's launched in 08 such as 3 series (e90, not f30),is250 and c class, it's rear seats quite big. Only prob is the rear centre passenger might have prob due to the rear air con. Otherwise it's larger than the other cars in the segment.

B8 has more rear space than the b7 and drives much better, though it's still fwd, unless you go for the Quattro versions.

My comments earlier were pertaining to a4, b8.

And i fully agree, space wise, it is a larger saloon compared to 3 series (E90) and even current C class.

Only downside is large hump at back so centre passenger seating is not ideal.

the other 2 rear passengers have ample leg room.

FC wise, around 9 - 10 km/l, very decent for something that goes to 0 - 100 in 8.6 seconds.

I have been driving the B8 2.0t Quatro for last 3.5 years. Was comparing against C200, IS250, BM325 at that time. No regrets settling for the A4. Still loving it!

Is Audi maintenance cost higher than a Merc? I was told there are less OEM parts for Audi, hence maintenance cost is higher than Merc, is that true?

not really, just try to find a right place to get your car serviced. Go singapore audi car forum 'vagsg' to more info.

Hello, I need input from A4 owners, looking at buying a 75,000km 2009 A4, pretty satisfied with everything about it, although there's one issue: the 60,000km servicing has simply not been done, well, at least it does not appear on the service record. The 75,000km servicing has just been done, and there was not issue (a few parts were changed, as is recommended).

the dealer offers to send it to viacom to do a complete assessment and confirm everything is OK.

Am I taking a big risk buying this car, or should it be fine ? How is this going to impact the resale price 3 years down the road ?

or should I just walk away ?

waiting for your advice...
