You still have an option to buy used car lo, no need must buy new car. You can also spend about 20K plus and buy a used car.
13177 Hypersonic December 19, 2012 Share December 19, 2012 I know guys who run 8km most days to/from work. Whether running distance is 5km or 8km doesnt matter run during leisure time or routine exercise. But if run to work, i find a bit too tiring la. Also still need to shower when reach workplace, so troublesome.

The 2 of them were my old bosses! They were so full of energy throughout the day you had to be on your toes the whole day at work. 1 of them would even go to the gym during lunch. Not bad for a guy in his late 40s.
Brendon1980 Neutral Newbie December 19, 2012 Share December 19, 2012 with the way the trend goes, much much cheaper to take a cab even if by booking.

If COE keeps trending where it is, then used car comes back to the same thing - It is not the outright cost, but the depreciation that makes it "not worth while"

This statement is not correct. Sure used car will be cheaper because the remaining years are shorter. The yearly Depreciation will be on par with the new cars. With super high COE, the depreciation will be high. It is the high depreciation of cars that determines unaffordability.

Albeniz Turbocharged December 19, 2012 Share December 19, 2012 (edited) COE price seems so gravity-defying, almost coming to 6 figure. Where do the people get the money to buy car? Edited December 19, 2012 by Albeniz
Vhtfhwlego Supercharged December 19, 2012 Share December 19, 2012 Heng ah, i renew my coe for 5 yrs at 40k plus. Can drive till 2021. Next yr 0.5% growth rate, confirm over 100k for all cat Y not spend S$40K on a used car? There are so many decent 2008 cars for S$40K in the market.... Always go for 10 years if that you want to renew your COE. If that you renew for 5 years, (actual parf value + COE) divde by 5 = annual depreciation. Even when it "sounds good on papers", it may not be the case. For example, a 14 year old car suddenly have some issues with one of the parts and it cost you S$2K to repair. Will you spent this S$2K on the car knowing it will last you another year? Annual depreciations budget at S$5K per year. Used at 4th year and scrap the car = S$ 25K / 4 years = S$6250 per year. Then compare with the 2008 cars, annual depreciations ↡ Advertisement
