Topping up Nitrogen filled tyres

This got nothing to do with tech aspect but purely marketing actions to retain existing customers and hopefully convert them in repeat customers.

Many garages are offering very cheap labour to replace engine oil, the sole objective is to hope over time to land in big ticket service repair jobs

It's works only for some shops with loyal customers but for many marginal customers who have no appreciations for good works and services usually stray across the causeway.

Here is the googled result from http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/how-t...estions/4302788

A: Sort of. From the top: Air is 78 percent nitrogen, just under 21 percent oxygen, and the rest is water vapor, CO2 and small concentrations of noble gases such as neon and argon. We can ignore the other gases.

There are several compelling reasons to use pure nitrogen in tires.

First is that nitrogen is less likely to migrate through tire rubber than is oxygen, which means that your tire pressures will remain more stable over the long term. Racers figured out pretty quickly that tires filled with nitrogen rather than air also exhibit less pressure change with temperature swings. That means more consistent inflation pressures during a race as the tires heat up. And when you're tweaking a race car's handling with half-psi changes, that's important.

Passenger cars can also benefit from the more stable pressures. But there's more: Humidity (water) is a Bad Thing to have inside a tire. Water, present as a vapor or even as a liquid in a tire, causes more of a pressure change with temperature swings than dry air does. It also promotes corrosion of the steel or aluminum rim.

If I ever need to top off a tire when I'm out on the road, I'll always briefly depress the tire chuck's valve with my thumbnail and vent some air. If my thumb gets wet, there's water in the line. Some gas stations don't do a very good job of keeping the humidity out of their air system. I don't even like to use a water-based tire-mounting lubricant unless I can let the tire bake in the sun for a couple of hours before I air it up and seat the bead. I've dismounted tires (not mine) that had several quarts of water inside

You on nitrogen?

I used to be on nitrogen but went back to normal air. Easier to pump and maintain at any petrol kiosk.

OT a bit: Planning to go Jimmy there to do alignment soon. You still going to him?

Nitrogen saves me e trouble of going top up every week. Been on it abt 2 yrs.

I stopped going jimmy long long ago. Found better places to get my tire stuff done.

Must be joke to offer nitrogen gas for road tyres. This idea original for aeroplanes due to high altitudes and temp.

For road tyres, most important is dry compressed air.

It is a selling point for some tyre shops these days.

I seldom use nitrogen these days as I checked tyres regularly.

For Jimmy, I go to him only when my regular alignment shop is packed or full.

I don't know if its a joke but $20 for 4 tyres,

someone must be laughing all the way to the bank.

:D

That is expensive.

I like nitro mainly fr e convenience. I dun need to go petrol station to pump cos sometimes got pple there n u hv to wait forever fr them to finish or sometimes u reach e air pump spoil.

I can only go pump air after car parked a few hours then tire wil b cold. Quite inconvenient.

Nitro i only pump after a few months n e pressure drop not as much as air.
