SINGAPORE: Mr Michael Palmer, Speaker of Singapore Parliament & MP for Punggol East, resigns over "grave mistake" of improper conduct.

 

Mr Charles Chong will be the acting Speaker of Parliament.

 

At a press conference on Wednesday, Mr Michael said he had an improper relationship with a staff member of the People's Association.

 

The staff member, who was working in the Pasir Ris Punggol GRC, has also resigned.

Haha it is already said PM have full discretion whether a by election in a SMC is held or not as there are more important matters concerning the nation which he has to look into. It took a lot of furore plus a court application by Mdm Vellama to influence PM to have the by election held. So this time if nothing extraordinary happens, PM could still ask the next door GRC MPs to help over at Punggol SMC and not have any by election. So for those excited by the prospect of a by election, tone down your expectations, pls... [laugh]
