Turbonetics 2nd Gear January 4, 2013 Share January 4, 2013 (edited) mine are pri 3 and pri1 how i wish i got to know the significance of flash in the early part of my photography journey (i didnt attend any class until much later, even then i did not learn to use manual flash and manual settings until recently!) i seldom use flash and not very good in controlling the lighting and directions. mostly shoot with natural lighting, unless really needed. i remember u are Canon user right? did u go to cineleisure to try out the latest 200-400mm lens? there are lots of big bazookas and new cameras to try like 1DX,5D3 and 6D. and even the rumoured 24-70mm F4 IS lens is there. i just went down to try it. very friendly staffs also. Turbonetics 2nd Gear January 5, 2013 Share January 5, 2013 i need the flash to freeze action (kids jumping arund at home) now no flash, camera no come out flash need to control very well,if not will be very harsh on the subject. but i think the best is ask them to go void deck in bright sunny day and jump and u can use higher shutter speed than what the flash can offer due to limited sync speed when using flash...lol

Mustank Hypersonic January 5, 2013 Share January 5, 2013 (edited) maybe u can share with me the trick?lol do u mean u can still go beyond the shutter speed limit when using flash? Flash duration can be as short as 1/30000 whereas shutter speed can be maxed out at 1/8000 in my old 40d Let say I manual set: 1/160 shutter: just for flash sync speed that's all. Nothing special about 1/160 F8: for more dof Iso400: so my flash no need work so hard Then you take your kid indoor photo with that setting without flash. Check whether it is total black. Must be total black, if not total black adjust aperture and ISo until you get all black. Must be indoor Then you on your flash. Put manual mode, try 1/16, 24 mm, aim at ceiling for bounce (aim at ceiling gives you boring flat pictures but sure get the job done) Trick is this: the time period in which the shutter open is 1/160 which is much longer than the time period in which the flash fires which is 1/30000. So what is the camera taking during the large amount of time in which flash is not firing? Nothing - all black (remember just now the setting gives you all black picture ?) By exploiting the extremely short flash duration, you can take pictures of extremely fast moving Objects in door. The trick is to set the camera setting so tight that no ambiance light gets registered ( all black picture) which means only work in door Read this guy work http://www.photosbykev.com/wordpress/2008/...flash-duration/ Edited January 5, 2013 by Mustank
