Has anyone tried both Nicotine Gum and Nicotine Patches.

Between the 2, which seems to be more effective. Any bro here whom had tried only 1 of the above also welcome to provide feedback.

I was thinking of getting from Amazon the above stuff so thought of seeking some feedback here. My intention is not quitting (though I dont mind that if it occurs inadvertently.

Reason is for occasions when I need to get in an air con bedroom, car, bus, do homework with them on short notice, extended car driving session and I dont wish to expose them to 3rd hand smoke (the smell residual toxic gases) that last approx 20-25mins after finishing a cigarette.

TIA.

Smoked for 21 years and tried all sorts of brands then, quit since 2002 and never touched since then, tried many times prior to that though.

Tried patches once with subscription from doctor around 2000 (those days needed Doc's subscription) used halfway and failed.

Tried again, this time from Pharmacy, (can't remember the brand or dosage) but tried a very unorthodox way... threw away my last half pack of Marlboro's and started this way.

Used 2-3 patches a day at one time (yup, cos didn't feel the effect with only one patch).

Missed the smell of Nicotine so used the old patches to whiff the Nicotine.

Got grumpy at times so went to the Gym or took my bike out for a ride.

Had lots of candies and snacks in between.

Had cold turkey once in a while but used exercise as a means of getting over it.

After 2-3 months didn't feel like smoking again.

Put on weight since then, enjoyed my food more, don't smell like wet used cigarettes any more, money can be spent in other ways...

Take note, try not to place the patches on the same place which you placed 1 or 2 days earlier as you might develop skin rashes or allergies.

To save on the patches, always took them off before a bath and placed them back afterwards when you dried yourself (those days very expensive for a box) and very poor then.

I'm not saying to try my method, but that's how I did it.

Quitting smoking is easy. Staying quit is hard. Very hard.

I've quit smoking since late November last yr and to tell you the truth, I suffered a lot of withdrawals ever since. I admit that I'm a heavy smoker, going thru packs like drinking water. Prior to my quit, I gradually taper off my consumption finally leading to cold turkey. From 30 to 20 to 15 to 10 to none. I educated myself thru the net and Allen Carr, so that I can be well informed.

On the 4th day of CT, I was alphaed to NUH for which I thought was a heart attack or stroke. After a thorough check up, bloodwork, xrays, they found nothing and I was sent home the next afternoon. Abt a month later, I was alphaed again, this time having severe palpitations. Same thing, after all the tests, I was cleared again and sent home. The 3rd time, I was admitted again for anxiety. Till now, I'm still following up with them for my withdrawals.. Sad thing is, doctors here have no clue about nicotine addiction and withdrawal symptoms. Thats because they've never smoked even once in their lives.

However, thru perseverance, I've finally found a doctor who used to smoke and had withdrawals as well during quitting. It took him almost 2 yrs to get back to normal and things will generally get better between 9 mths or a yr onwards.

My advice to heavy smokers, you're never a habitual smoker, you're an addict. Social smokers are habitual. As a nicotine addict, one will experience panic attacks, depression, intense anxiety, desperation, bowel problems, chest tightness, and a plethora of other symptoms.

To those chimneys who wanna stop, the withdrawals are real. Prep yourself to be more prepared. Take those quitline pamphlets and throw it away. They are of no use. Only true smokers will know what's coming ahead.

To bro Baal, chantix is good but it will cause severe withdrawals once you tapered off the drug. Wellbutrin or zyban would be your best bet. But those are anti depressants but will work well with quitters. Therefore, you'll need to press your doc for it. It is not well received here with nicotine addiction but in other countries, there are almost the 1st line of treatment.

Best of luck!

4 years 2 mths smoke-free after 18yrs of puffing.

Even my father who smoked for 40 over years also became smoke-free for almost 3 years now.

No medication, but started with reducing the qty. 10-15 a day till about 4-5 a day, then just stop.

Yes, we just need one thing to be able to quit smoking and this is to discipline oneself. Just think of the health risks you may encounter for doing so then this could make you realize to decide and quit:)

But dont worry, first 3 months caught will just be given a warning  [:p]

I am a non-smoker ... and I support this ban.

Park and reservoirs are the places that I brought my family... so, would be good if can breathe in fresh air there...

Anyway, we have bigger issue to worry -> Haze ...

Please ban people from smoking while walking.

Nobody bloody want to smell your second hand smoke.

I normally walked fast fast past them and stared at them.

I saw some people smoking while walking with their kids behind them. The nicotine must have clogged up their brain.

The authorities can ban smoking at certain place or what ever but the problem is NO enforcement. so also LL [bigcry]

My HDB multi-storey car park every morning also got smokers smoke and walk to their car. Every morning I also inhale 2nd hand smoke thanks to these smokers.

Heard HDB multi-storey car park are Non-smoking zone. Complain to NEA already also no use cause No enforcement.

Sianzz... what shud I do? Tell off those smokers my self. Might trigger confrontation [bounce2]

I am a smoker, but I also hate those that smoke and walk, really inconsiderate .

While they are at it, why not ban smoking in hawker center also?
