Mesut Ozil was at his prime playing in the World Cup Finals, at the time when Germany was still reigning supreme. Overall, I am glad that he had joined AFC and contributed to the Club his skillful passes and creative gameplay. Then, I had hoped that Mesut Ozil and/or David Silva would join AFC to make the team strong.. well at least Ozil did. My takeaway from his spell here was that while a master with the ball, he lacked consistency and physical strength to match the rigour of the English game.

To AFC fans, I dedicate this video:

Watched the game. The AFC team was not just a string of average names (any big name player here?), but also out of position, out of energy and out of ideas. For a good initial 30 minutes, the team did not settle down into a proper tempo of play.  The team played poorly and deserved its loss. Southampton on the other hand, stuck to a tight formation and put possession into good use. Nobody from Arsenal played well.   Players like Elneny and Martinelli were not contributing positively at all. Cedric was quite possibly the worst of the lot in this game. Dumped out and no more FA Cup in this season to save the job of the Manager from the wrath of irate fans.

I would settle for another 10th position with a FA Cup win this season. So it's sad we got kicked out so early in the competition.

Meanwhile Willian looks like Ozil 2.0 while Pepe looks massively overrated. He only has 1 pattern of play and all defenders worth their salt know how to guard against him.

We also seem to have overpaid for Saliba. No wonder Saul needs to go.

Watched the game. Arsenal chased the game from a very early soft goal. Ryan, our stand-in keeper did well. Cedric again, is very poor for an EPL player. It took about twenty minutes before the Gunners settled into the game. I cannot fault the team for the lack of effort as we fought to the end for that elusive draw. I still stand by the position that Martinez should have been kept and Leno let go (if he wants to) but I am just a Gooner.

Why do I get the impression of "dead wood" as I watch these AFC games, i.e. there was no spirt, heart and soul from our players. Is Ozll laughing away somewhere. Is this a twist in the modern game which I have yet to realise or perhaps AFC had simply rotated different pieces of "wood" right from the beginning.  As we come to the second half of this season, I concede that Pepe had failed to live up to expectations and should be free to move on.
