I'm not saying it CAN'T resemble the parents.... but on the other hand, it CAN be that it does not resemble the parents at first, so what is so damn surprising that the parents mistook?

baby face change every day i agree.

but dont tell me the change so drastic that it change within a few hour to something you dont reconize.

so tell me, why it is not surprising that parents cannot tell their baby look different from the one they are holding a few hour or min ago?

I dont know about other parents. maybe i am too kan cheong, on the day of book out. when the baby left the room, for discharge. i just pace up and down my wife ward and my baby nursury to look at her. even if not, the departure is at most a 1 or 2 hour. dont tell me the baby face change until dont know look like what.

funny that when you all say cannot recognise the baby like you speak from the 3rd party POV, when you see you baby for the first time in the hospital (assumed it wasn't swap in the very beginning), your eye only on him/her and hard printed into your brain/heart.

why you go around see other babies and get yourself confuse? unless you have 'another' baby happen to be there at the same time [sly]

anyway J22, u might think it's easy to id your own baby. Cos u r only seeing one bb.

U put them in a nursery of 20 babies, not so easy -_-

anyway some babies look remarkably similar. i look thru the window, some of the other babies, i will be hard pressed to tell the difference.

Yes - all ugly bats look alike [:p]

Actually ability to recognise faces instantly is an ability. I am very poor at that.

"Both tags are checked for verification."

"The mother signs release form."

Mother too happy/exhausted then overlooked it?

Staff also forgot.

But people make mistakes. This is too serious a mistake but s--t HAPPENS, let's try not to be too harsh.

I'm sure they have learnt from this and will never repeat.

THANK GOD it was discovered early!

Last time my 1st born at KKH, I never get to accompany from delivery room to ward (was c-section).

For number two at Mount Alvernia, I walk from delivery room (also c-section) to ward, help to measure, take photo etc. Was much more "fun"

Another thing is, this wrongly swap baby will never cross your mind when you first see your baby. Unless the skin color is obviously from another race, will you actually immediately go to the nurse and insist this is not your child? No right?

So, my question is, how to you 100% ascertain that the newborn baby IS your child just by looking at it? No benefit of doubt at all? This is crux is the issue that I've been arguing about.... In my opinion, NO WAY you can ascertain this. Assuming that the baby is 100% normal.

Talk very easy, using this ....

When the baby was born within 3 days and when you see the nurse prick the baby little foot for blood sample (ckeck for jaundice), any strong father when see this will automatic got heart pain. Poor little baby so fragile ... [bigcry]

I got such experience twice with my 2 kids when they were born. Heart really pain when seeing the baby leg being poke and baby crying out loud ... [:(] . So defenceless against the nurse...

actually i can understand what you saying. i think most people that says they can recognise say so from their own precise circumstances experienced. but i have to say, can't be forever certain. babies that look alike are many and babies that have mixed features of both parents are possible and those having mixed feature tend not to look very much like either of the parents.

there would be instances whereby the baby don't look like their natural parent and when placed together with babies that look alike, can be confusing. i, for one, almost forgot how my baby looked like on his first day of birth now that they have grown up to be 21 and 6 months old respectively. i went back to look at the photo and realised they have changed so much in looks over these number of months.

Ok la...at least they have a system in place which allows them to realise the mistake quickly.

Should give them credit for that and don't just focus on the oversight itself.

Humans will make mistake, but at least the process in place is good enough to identify the mistake quickly.

Imagine no process in place and no one realise the mistake until the kid is many years older. That would have been disastrous.

if right from the beginning after birth, maybe not possible.

But this incident was about when they take the baby home which they should already spend few days with the baby.

if not use this method on the spot [laugh]
