conti dual fart dsg transmission ftw LOLZZ . but seriously aside from trolling , do u all notice most auto cars are very annoying at low speed or jam situation . the rpm doesnt really goes that high , n the engine brake power is so weak . u need to keep on stepping brake all the time . damn manz , i juz realise this when driving my dad's crv n odyssey . when driving my gf's jazz or my mazda , wew so ez to control . even though ur left hand swing here n there a bit some times . frankly speaking , during an emergency situation manual cars have a higher chance of escaping 'death' . is up to u to discover how true is that :D .

It amazes me...I mean, isn't engine brake more effective than using plainly the brakes?

That was the rationale when they started teaching driving.

With auto, just step on brake & allow the machine to control?

I just find auto cars not so much control...

And yes I agree, manual cars have that little bit of magic.

That first gear as compared to auto cars is amazing, you can boost and your vehicle steps out quickly from a difficult situation (it can happen)

Maybe you're oblivious to the fact that auto cars allow you to drop gear from 4th to 3rd....

Some german cars have 321 after D you know. Modern ones have the - + shift gate.

Some japanese cars have autos that have a button at the shifted when pressed, it drops gear.

The is called the overdrive button.

It exists on most ancient toyota cars.

I believe there is a good reason why brakes exist in the first place. Don't tell me on a manual you're gonna drop gear from 4th to 1st?

If your complaint is that braking harder results in wear of the discs, pads, etc, please note that brake disc and pads are cheaper than transmissions.

Emergency situation? Like? Maybe you should cite an example of this before making a sweeping statement.

I believe it's a matter of who's the driver behind the wheel regardless of transmission.

I was at the showroom and was turn down by the SE when i propose a manual. She didn't even mentioned abt palcing deposit or anything. [cool]

If the car model has manual version, dont think the SE can turn you down.

Agreed, gearshift & clutch very heavy, for "AngMoh" used the best.

You are right, the gear very difficult to engage, can end up engage the wrong gear! [rolleyes]

Some SE will be like not interested already lo. Last year my dad wanted to get a 335i. Asked the SE if can get the MT version or not and they were not willing to help us. Maybe its because of the car we drove there they thought we just asking around for fun only. Ended up getting the auto one. Gearbox so jerky my family feels my MT car is smoother especially in 1st and 2nd gear...

That's funny...before auto all drivers could only take manual.

Well, to each their own...if given a choice...

Still love manuals very much (and I don't even race; I just like to be in control of the car, not that everything is decided by the car).

Manual cars confirmed very nice to drive, esp if the gearbox for the manual car is smooth.

Most cars makes and models are aval in manual and auto tranny. Its just that Singapore has no market for manual so most dealers refuse to bring in. Each and every model they bring in gotta go thru homogation which cost $$$. So its not cost effective for them to bring in just one car for a customer.

Check this out! Golf GTI itself has many varients with both manual and auto. Singapore market is just too small so most dealers just brought in one variant.

I don't have any preference, manual or auto is fine with me. What I can say is if I am single, driving a manual would be great and now that I have a family, driving auto is advisable. Another advice I would give is if you just got your class 3 license, it is better to drive manual than straight away drive an auto. At least hit 20k or 1year of driving.

Yeah lor....unfortunately the car I got recently could only go up to Gear 4.

Gear 5 was often stuck and when travelling on an expressway at Gear 4 (even speed is 90kmh)

Neutral Newbie

actually what's the difference in driving each? I haven't driven auto before, but thinking of getting an auto car because it gets tiring to drive manual during peak hours. sometimes I have to free gear and handbrake up while waiting for my turn to move.

what about the price difference in manual and auto cars?
