andriod have this preinstalled function that can send you an email if there's a change in SIM card. not sure how it works

Yeah. Once I thought I lost my phone. End up it was my wife who borrowed my phone to sms her friend cuz her's no batt. It sent me and email and SMSed my wife's phone with my phone with the message I entered in the settings. At least you'll be able to get the thief's phone number. But also quite useless if the finder resets the phone.

Now some of those IT savvy people also know that once they find an android phone first thing is pull out the batt if not intending to return. Go home then hard reset first. Guess thats one of the benefits of the iphone. Cannot pull out the batt to turn it off. Want to turn off the phone have to at least unlock it or drain the batt first.

did you try the SMS command control?

Just tested again. SMS command control works if I just change sim card and google account on my phone but never hard reset the phone. But once I uninstall android lost or hard reset the phone, the SMS command don't work already also cannot seem to push the app to the phone if hard reset and sim card changed.

Maybe i neglected to be clear just now. this app and perhaps any vaunted tracking can still work if you change your simcard. Hard reset?

I think you would need telco tracking which locally, no telco provides this service.

I left my iPhone in a restaurant in Beijing once.

Using the find my iPhone feature, I managed to communicate with the guy who picked up my phone and got it back within 2 hours.

Of course, he did not respond at all UNTIL I offered him a RMB$200 reward. Wah, after that very responsive.

Quite true.Cos too many people lost their phones.

Telco will only track IMEI on special occasions.

Hard reset cannot reset IMEI.

Shocking. The phone company says must pay.

http://www.theguardian.com/business/2014/oct/17/vodafone-customer-billing-nightmare-mobile-theft

A Welsh primary school teacher who had his mobile phone snatched while holidaying in Barcelona is facing financial ruin after being told by Vodafone that he must pay a £15,000 bill run up by the thief who used the phone to make expensive calls throughout the night.

Osian Rhys Edwards called his mobile provider soon after a pickpocket made off with his handset on a Saturday night in early August, but Vodafone has insisted it has no record of his cancelling call, and is now holding him liable for all the calls made before its fraud department cut the phone off.

The 29-year-old, who teaches at a school in Barmouth, on the west coast of Wales, has become the latest victim of the refusal by mobile operators to cap customer bills – despite a 2012 agreement with telecoms regulator Ofcom that they would do so.

Criminal gangs have long targeted tourists in the Catalan capital, stealing their phones late at night, then using the sim card to profit from premium-rate numbers repeatedly dialled throughout the night, until the phone is blocked.

Rhys Edwards says he can’t pay the £15,000 Vodafone bill (which includes £2,500 in VAT), even if he wanted to. He describes the episode as a “nightmare that doesn’t seem to be ending” and says he can’t sleep because of the worry.
