Kilatz 1st Gear October 30, 2012 Share October 30, 2012 Was driving down the north-south highway this morning when the oil rig in front of me suffered an exploded tyre while overtaking another oil rig. Damn lucky I kept a distance behind and was able to immediately react when the tyre exploded. A lot of tyre pieces flying around especially small pieces of hard rubber that can't be seen in the video. It caught me by surprise and it was a few seconds later that I recovered and found my voice. A good reminder for those who like to tailgate while speeding down the highway... ↡ Advertisement
Kangadrool Supersonic October 30, 2012 Share October 30, 2012 Should be oil tanker, not rig. Quite common for heavy vehicles. I have even seen front tyres shreaded to bits and pieces in Singapore.

Yup tanker. They uses recon tyres for trailer so that is a common sight on NSHW
Kilatz 1st Gear October 30, 2012 Author Share October 30, 2012 Front tyre failure are dangerous because inexperienced drivers tends to take immediate corrective actions that will make the situation worse. Ya should be tanker I guess. Still thinking of that incident....if the 2 tankers collide I will jialat.
Yewheng Twincharged October 30, 2012 Share October 30, 2012 Should be oil tanker, not rig. Quite common for heavy vehicles. I have even seen front tyres shreaded to bits and pieces in Singapore. Oil truck la, not oil tanker. Oil tanker is a merchent ship that transport oil and very huge in size. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oil_tanker
Shibadog Turbocharged October 30, 2012 Share October 30, 2012 i used to tailgate vehicles (usually lorrys or buses) that were doing really slow overtaking manuveres in NSHY... then kena too many stonechips fm them so i had to keep my distance... now got another good reason not to tailgate.. Imagine if this happened at night.. can barely see the remnants of the tyre in front of the car in the night.

Kilatz 1st Gear October 30, 2012 Author Share October 30, 2012 Aiyoh....oil rig, tanker, ship, plane, spaceship...you get the idea.
Columbian78 6th Gear October 30, 2012 Share October 30, 2012 I think the vehicle has many tyres. One bursting does not cause a catastrophic outcome, it is still able to move stably for a distance to stop safely. If this happens to a normal 4 wheeled car, it may not be so stable. Deckbuild 6th Gear October 31, 2012 Share October 31, 2012 Actually when their tyre is giving way, it will emit a very loud blop blop blop sound, you will need to look out at their tyres already. The blop sound is due to their regroove or rewrap tyres came off at one location and hitting the road when it turn, within seconds, it will just burst. Encounter once, siam far far before it burst. Hamburger Hypersonic October 31, 2012 Share October 31, 2012 I was wondering.... Rig also got tyres meh...
Kilatz 1st Gear November 1, 2012 Author Share November 1, 2012 The damn tyre burst without any warning. Maybe overstressed by heat, load and speed. There is just one sound like gunshot and the debris start flying around. You see one large chunck of shredded tyre in the video. But the small pieces are flying about like shrapnels and at that speed, if kana your car you sure panic. If motorbike, sure buang already. If at night, I don't even want to imagine. And I'm sure its very hard to claim for any damage... ↡ Advertisement
