Jman888 Moderator October 30, 2012 Share October 30, 2012 if the manager die die follow the HR book, she is right. Some time off is only good for 2 hours, and it is under the manager discretion, not an entitlement. For company with bigger headcount, it is always safer to follow the book, unless you are in the good book For a smaller company, manager usually close one eye, again only if you are in his good book. Jamesc Hypersonic October 30, 2012 Share October 30, 2012 If it was my staff I would give them time off but I know there are very few managers like me. As a manager I have also never ever raised my voice or ever scold a staff. If TS manager don't give him time off I think its cos the manager just don't like him

When Clinton was president of USA he wrote into law that if a kid was sick the mother was automatically entitled to MC. For people that say it will affect operations, yes it will. Just as people that keng MC also affect operations. We all know people that keng MC and how many companies has collaspse bcos of that? If you ask me, many companies run smoother when the slackers especially managers are not around
Ngck 3rd Gear October 30, 2012 Share October 30, 2012 find a dentist who works after office hours... or find a new boss who let you take time off... problem solve
Sosaria Twincharged October 30, 2012 Share October 30, 2012 Time chit is acceptable, depending on boss, but must also be "strategic" timing, e.g. your appointment starts early in the morning, e.g. 8:30am or joining lunch-time, so that the time away from work is reduced. The time-chit is then just to excuse you coming to work later, or coming back from lunch later, or going to lunch earlier. But if the appointment is right smack in the middle of working period, and takes couple of hours, then half-day leave is more reasonable. I find that the "time-off" is more respected when you actually work official unpaid overtime, e.g. when boss ask you to stay back at work or come back after office hours... this is official reason. Record this, and then use it to justify time-off.

Altivo 3rd Gear October 30, 2012 Share October 30, 2012 I take leave when going for dental procedures. I don't believe in time-off as it's open to abuse and different intepretations.

Then it's considered no pay leave, not time off. Time off is for people who want to "eat" their employer without applying for annual leave or no pay leave. Celicar Turbocharged October 30, 2012 Share October 30, 2012 This is not strictly a health risk or life threatening, so why cannot go during Sat? If really ill, or even for dental situations say the tooth ache quite badly or something I can understand, but this is not even close leh.

Alechi 2nd Gear October 30, 2012 Share October 30, 2012 Correct! I tell my staff time off is my discretion. Either get MC or take leave. What's so special about dental? Otherwise, I need to go mod my car, send it for repair, paInting etc, get time chit from workshop can do? Our the argument is that crowning done by doctor and is "health related", then how about I go physiotheraphy 10 sessions by doctor, all 10 times take time chit boleh? On 10/30/2012 at 5:23 AM, Babyt said: I was told time off is under mgr's discretion. I need to visit dentist 3 times to complete a crowning procedure. My mgr keeps asking me to take MC but i told HER no MC is given for crowning. I just need to take time off to see the dentist as my dentist only work during office hrs. I have a time chit to show also. I think maybe she petty or stingy, came and told me time off is mgr discretion and wont be fair if i have to take 3 times. 3 times = 1 day already. those who r bosses/mgrs here, are you ok if ur employee needs to take time off to complete a procedure? its not like i take time off to bring my kid to see a doc. i also told her im ok to take MC but some docs dont give u MC but time chit because they dont see the need to. Whats wrong w her? I also said that time chit allows me to return work and my colleagues do not need to backup me for entire day.
Ladykillerz 4th Gear October 30, 2012 Share October 30, 2012 we know that dental crowning process need to visit at least three times in separate dates. in most usual cases, there is no medical leave given for dental crowning. there are a few options, depending on individuals. talk to your dentist, - change of time (after work or weekends) - request for medical leave (it is possible) some salespersons who often travel outdoors can just sneak out without your boss knowing. if you are a desk-bound employee, its all depend on the relationship between your boss and you, type of work situation, etc. worst case, just apply half day leave. there is no fixed solution, it all depends on you, your work environment and people relationship involved. ↡ Advertisement
