I didn't Know Until Yesterday .....

It's a fact that the taxation on new diesel vehicles is prohibitive ... in spite of lower diesel fuel cost.

This is to prevent a proliferation of diesel vehicles emitting very high levels of particulate matter (PM) into the atmosphere!

It's not environmentally friendly, unless car is driven long distances (vs petrol engines).

So it won't work in SG ... unlike Europe.

Even the Anericans favor petrol engines due to PM-induced smog in both the Pacific and Atlantic coast lines.

This is the NEA's biggest concern and will never budge in that aspect, until new technology becomes available that can reduce PM in diesel engines' exhausts down to the levels of petrol engines.

I stand by the NEA's position on this.

Until then, diesel engined cars will be prohibitively more expensive.

Thanx ALL. But my faith in French and Italian cars is very low! I used to have a Renault Megane Coupe ... Ahhhh ... blinded by the colour (against my better judgement) and bought it ... spent huge amounts of money just to maintain it! In the end ... traded it in for a Ford Focus (this was in the UK!).

Reliability of Renault and Fiat cars? Comments? I think sometimes it is luck BUT some makes are worse than others!

Previa is around $208k ~ $210k, so much cheaper than Sharan by more tha $10k ~ $15k. -_-

... then lagi easy to decide...

the omv for Previa is $39k and Sharan is $39.7k. So, BM is having a smaller margin.

Dear All,

I read the posts with interest as I am thinking of getting a MPV. However, I have less of a budget and $200K and above is not something I can afford!

I was wondering in everyone's opinion ... which is the most affordable MPV for <$150K. Diesel vs Petrol? I think the road tax for diesel in only justified for mileages above 10-15K (I maybe wrong! I last did my sums for Polo Diesel vs Kia Cerato Petrol!) and I intend to use this as a weekend car or offpeak period.

Suzuki APV (dated!) vs Fiat Panorama vs Citreon C4 Picasso vs anything else?

Grand Picasso if you can take the gearbox.

Well, will visit BM this weekend to view at the Toyota Previa Hybrid.

Err....previa hybrid will be about the same price, higher road tax, poorer FC yet less power and torque....so might want to rethink? Sharan is using 6speed DSG not the 7speed so that's one less problem compared to other VWs.

I wish I was a car salesman. I would happily entertain all people who wear shorts and tshirts.

Many of these people are really rich but walk out of the show room because the salesman

looked down on them and they didn't feel welcomed.

:D
