LoverofCar 6th Gear October 23, 2012 Share October 23, 2012 (edited) what is the difference between this 2?? to my understandiing is same same la...just different naming bY different car maker...may be I'm wrong......I think it applicable to those cars with dual clutch, semi auto, DSG or easytronic gear box.....so called automated manual gearbox.......basically, when you stop at a slope...the brake will hold for a couple of second after you release the foot brake...it is to ensure the car doesn't roll back..... JaydenSTI 1st Gear October 23, 2012 Share October 23, 2012 Both function exactly same but with different naming, maybe mechanism as well. And not only for semi auto / dual clutch, my ride (manual) and my bro ride (torque converter) both have this function.
Lattesurf Neutral Newbie October 23, 2012 Share October 23, 2012 Mine is manual with the hill assist. Holds the brakes for 2-3 secs to allow right foot to move from brake to accelerator pedal without rolling back.
PorkChong Clutched October 23, 2012 Share October 23, 2012 just like some called steptronic some called selespeed?
TatteredTorn Clutched October 23, 2012 Share October 23, 2012 There are quite a few variants of hill assist that provides the same effect. http://auto.howstuffworks.com/car-driving-...art-control.htm Hill assist should be only applicable for manual cars. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Err you do know that auto cars can roll back on an incline right? The vios is a very good example. There's a reason why driving schools teach students to pull up the handbrake on an incline even though the car is auto. The reason is that people that are new to driving may not have enough confidence to move quickly from the brake to the gas. Well at least that was what my friend told me. Yah I went on to read more articles and found out that some auto cars also have this hill assist function. I have driven a few brands of AT cars. Some have lesser tendency to roll back... I have driven a few brands of AT cars. Some have lesser tendency to roll back... Yup my old merc is a good example of this. Even when it's on a steep slope, it'll just stay planted at its position. Can't say the same about my relative's altis.
Topspin 2nd Gear October 23, 2012 Share October 23, 2012 Mine is an auto (torque convertor) and it has hill assist. It is activated by pressing down harder than usual on the brake pedal. Once the beep is heard, the car will never roll backwards no mater how steep is the slope.

Vhtfhwlego Supercharged October 24, 2012 Share October 24, 2012 just like some called steptronic some called selespeed? selespeed is actually a manual without the clutch pedal. stepstronic is an auto with +/- manual overwrite...

LoverofCar 6th Gear October 24, 2012 Share October 24, 2012 For mine...when on a slope...the brake will stiff up itself....once you release it, the car will hold in position for 3 to 5 sec for you to move off...and my car is on dual clutch... Solar Turbocharged October 24, 2012 Share October 24, 2012 Your merc is wasting more fuel doing that compared to Altis. i thought it is the brake that is holding the car in its position? u mean to say it burns fuel for doing that?
Fastfive1 5th Gear October 24, 2012 Share October 24, 2012 Your merc is wasting more fuel doing that compared to Altis. Haha I'm not really concerned about fuel consumption as long as i get at least 10km/l ↡ Advertisement
