Pureness Clutched October 15, 2012 Share October 15, 2012 my car's window was smashed in JB, 2nd time in 5 months. the 1st incident i was parked in broad daylight infront of a shopping center. the 2nd incident i was parked inside an official car park with security cameras however the guard said that the cameras are for viewing only and not recording so wasn't able to catch the thiefs after the 2nd incident i'm considering to install an aftermarket car alarm, was quoted $400 for normal ones and $$600 for keyless entry + push start was wondering if such alarms actually help or will they always go off whenever another car passes by too close and cause a nuisance instead. anybody got stories to share? has a car alarm actually prevented thief? in both instances my window was smashed so i'm not sure if the force was enough to trigger the alarm in the 1st place. also how effective is an aftermarket keyless entry? i'm very worried that they might just hack the keyless entry and drive off with my car instead! but a $200 difference for keyless is surely a very good deal! ↡ Advertisement
LoverofCar 6th Gear November 14, 2012 Share November 14, 2012 (edited) I think the most effective way is to keep your car clear of any item....better than any car alarm.. Edited November 14, 2012 by LoverofCar
Deckbuild 6th Gear November 15, 2012 Share November 15, 2012 May I know what car is that? Is the window tinted? You place anything on the dash board or seat? You might wanna install proximity alarm which is usually meant for convertible but risk getting your battery flat if too many ppl get close to your car. Watwheels Supersonic November 15, 2012 Share November 15, 2012 Ask yourself what was stolen in the past 2 thefts. Keep them out of sight or remove them when going JB. Prevention is better dan any car alarm.

First I am very sorry to hear that Care to share the location of the happening? and time And what car are u driving? Have u consider it may be an act of revenge unless ur car has valuable that caught their attention I heard don't quote me!!! that Keyless entry can reverse engineer as it is contrasty sending signal so the guy can drive it away. As a driver of keyless entry that is my greatest fear. I don;t know how true it is but so far heng heng la Alarm is useful if only u park near high human traffic plc if not the thief still can break in and remove the things and walk away My 20 sen
SGCMsmallcar 4th Gear November 15, 2012 Share November 15, 2012 Bro, sorry to hear that your car got broken in. No use fitting any alarm into any car system. I saw in my own eyes that someone perform to me that he can break ( without breaking window ) into a BMW latest 5 series within 20 sec and drive off. So there is no alarm can stop these professionals when they want your car. The only options they advice to me is that tint your window dark dark so that they cant see clearly what is inside of the car. So that will reduced the chance ( But not the whole car if they want it ) of window breaking n things stolen. I have done that after hearing it and safe till now. Hope this info helps

13177 Hypersonic November 15, 2012 Share November 15, 2012 I think best solution is not to leave anything that is visable on the car seat, dashboard or even car floor. Even holder of your GPS and wires also cannot stick on the windscreen.

Deckbuild 6th Gear November 15, 2012 Share November 15, 2012 not going to help. i have a 2-way alarm with shock sensor. parked my car at the open air car park at jb giant, very near the main glass doors with lots of human traffic in broad daylight. while shopping inside, alarm in pocket went off with the indication that the shock sensor has been triggered. It took me 2 minutes to run to my car. My car alarm was still wailing when i got to my car. Windows already smashed, Apexi Neo and RSM already gone with cleanly sliced wires. security guards came after that to see. no help will be rendered. As long as your car has a window, and you have anything they perceive as resell-able inside, nothing you install can prevent thief there. Best solution, don't go up north. I think it's the thing you install attract thieves, my GPS which is 8 years old on my windscreen, never have any problem, my previous car have been in out of JB almost every other day. Carnoob Supercharged November 15, 2012 Share November 15, 2012 Quoted from Sun, Apr 08, 2007 The Straits Times Shatter-resistance films "Car owners are also buying shatter-resistance films to prevent thieves from smashing their car windows to steal their belongings. A spokesman for 3M Technologies, which makes the 3M Solar Film, says that the film deters smash-and-grab crimes by holding the glass together even when it breaks. At the recent Global Security Asia exhibition at the Singapore Expo, 3M employees demonstrated the toughness of the film by dropping a 13-pound bowling ball onto a sheet of glass protected by the safety film. The see-through film kept the glass in one piece even after it cracked. Besides being shatter-resistant, the solar film also filters out ultraviolet rays, keeping the interior of the car cool. The film has been commercially available in Singapore since 2005. It costs about $1,000 to install the film on all windows of an average-size sedan car." Brendon1980 Neutral Newbie November 15, 2012 Share November 15, 2012 very tempted to install the films but price quite steep... any cheaper brands but durable ones? For MPV I think cost will be pretty steep..
Kazuo Neutral Newbie November 15, 2012 Share November 15, 2012 Spend $1 million to install 1000 security system into your car also won't solve your problem. Since your car is not stolen for both the case, the thief will only get scare away AFTER smashing your window (again). Even with all the thick film installed, the glass still break. You still got to pay for the damage. Either: 1. You are marked? 2. You like to leave your valuable items openly in the car?

Unless you are talking about bullet proof, this shatter resistant only resist the glass from shattering into pieces, a pen knife will be enough to cut the film off and still take things from within the car. 13177 Hypersonic November 15, 2012 Share November 15, 2012 serious? Ya, cause if you stick your GPS holder on the windscreen, it is like telling people that you have a GPS in your car. Same like if you use cashcard cover, people sure confirmed that there is a cashcard inside the IU.
