Damienic 5th Gear October 14, 2012 Share October 14, 2012 Actually nissan makes nice cars, in terms of reliability, if toyota is no 1, they are no 2 for jap brand. By trusted brand, its how consumer perceives it and the brand name is built up over the years, not only based on looks. In UAE where there is no tax or COE, there are very nice nissans saloons and SUVs and good market for it vs elantra and the koreans, chinese are not seen here. Altima is nice, never see any almera here which is like latio, actually worse, it depends on what the AD in Singapore brings in. There is a lot of brand that scores high on reliability, not just toyota and nissan. Even skoda scores very high on reliability if you look at the surveys on car owners in europe (I mention europe because skoda owners is a rare breed in SG). Besides realibility, I feel what makes a brand is also innovation, design and technology. In these aspects, Nissan is just lacking. If you said the brand name built up over the years, yes, perhaps so in the past. but sadly, imo Nissan just cannot make it since the last 5-7 yrs. And one can risk destroying a brand name built in the past if it continues rolling out lacklustre efforts in current years. No brand can survive just becos of past glories. Just look at the models rolled out in recent times. Teana and Almera. Sorry to say, I feel they are really nothing to shout about. The only notable release in recent time from Nissan is perhaps the Nissan Juke. Imo, the Koreans are catching on up a lot and you can see the latest efforts from Kia in the last 3-5 yrs that is so much better than what the japanese does in recent years. Even Toyota is going downhill these days imo. Sorry if I offended any Nissan fans here. Just honestly expressing what I thought. ↡ Advertisement

My 2 cents worth, and I am only comparing B&B Japanese car makes to the Koreans The problem now with Japanese car makers is that their cars lack the design "wow" factors. Korean car manufacturer nowadays tend to focus on design to impress new buyers. In regards to technology wise, Nissan was one of the first Jap car maker to come out with keyless, auto headlight/ wiper functions on their cars ( Latio, cefiro ). Then other jap and korean car makers starts to implement it on their bread and butter cars latter on. Nissan with their latio, slyphy and teana was their best b&b car models in the last few years. A affordable V6 engine (teana), many technologies and gadget and have decent interior space. Toyota have their brilliant hybrid system and vvti engines, honda have their i-vtec/vtec engines to rave about. I don't really see Korean cars especially their bread and butter models have any significant praises with regards to their cars EXCEPT for their design and cheaper price. The only thing the Korean car markers are doing a good job is in the SUV segment. Edited October 14, 2012 by Flameblade
