Singapore troubled with rocketing number of singles

Pick this up at HWZ. Bring it here for discussion. In my dept, about 80% married. And my impression of MCFer regulars, most are married. That's why find the stats alarming..

According to SingStat, between 2001 and 2011, the proportion of singles increased particularly among younger males and females.

Among those aged 25-29 years, 76 per cent of the males and 56 per cent of the females were single in 2011, up from 65 per cent and 41 per cent respectively in 2001.

A relatively high proportion of males and females in their thirties were also never-married in 2011. Among those aged 30-34 years, 38 per cent of the males and 25 per cent of the females remained single in 2011, compared to the 31 per cent for males and 19 per cent for females in 2001.

how to guys get to know females? as i aged, my pool of females were downsized to a count of my palm.

 

don't talk about SDN aka SDU or that crap.. friends' pool no longer works as most, will be keeping to themselves as FB etc...

 

Day to day as i commute, i saw many nice ladies, the couple of usual questions will pop into my head.

 

- are they married or available?

- how do i get to know them?

- will i be deem as an idiot..

 

this is a different story during teens or as young adult, would just approach the gal and have the guts to say : can i get to know you etc..

It's just the mentality... I overheard a young man telling another person that "of course" he's not yet married because he's still YOUNG, in early 30s!!

 

And I was thinking, when I hit 30, I already had one child .

 

Young, my foot... but I guess that's the mentality that comes when still staying with parents under one roof... it's unthinkable. Nevertheless this is a problem of living in a small country with nowhere far to venture out.
