Suay! Involved in chain collision accident

Wouldn't signing a note saying that you were at fault for banging the taxi driver, prove that you were in the wrong?

I wouldn't settle with the front taxi...just let insurance take care of it.

Taxi driver probably knows he will get a quicker pay out from you rather than from the last guy in the chain.

TS is not going to sign that his car hit the first car first. He would obviously say that the third car forced his car to kiss the first car. Since it is minor damage on first car and first car driver is okay, a personal settlement was executed and the report would be attached to TS's main report to his insurer.

TS, again I am not an expert in insurance. But, what I heard is the rule implemented recently is that the first car claim to second and second to third and so on. If TS does not have evidence (he does not have evidence - confirmed now) that third car forced his car to kiss first, it is very difficult to claim in chain collision. It is best if TS can report what happened exactly and Insurance company would take care of the rest.

So, the lesson learnt is "Invest in Car cameras"

I always learnt one car length per 10 km/h

Roughly this is 0.75 seconds for recognising hazard and deciding on action

0.75 seconds to carry out action (eg, move foot to brake)

0.5 seconds for margin of error

If your car lenth is 5.5m, it is one car length for every 10km/hr. I guess 8km/hr a car lenth is sort of international thumb rule taking an account of average car lenth of 4.44m.

Just to give an idea, Vios is 4.3m long. F10 5 series is 4.899m and 7 series is 5.212m.

BTW - this is for a dry road - it's double that distance for a wet one.

It is not double for sure. What I feel is that the thumb rule should be good for wet roads as well. But, it is always better to give more distance in rain as visibility is also another issue.

Another point could be braking effiency of the cars. High end cars have ventilated discs and are quite stable with modern assistance / support and definitely those cars would have better braking effiency than lower end cars with ancient drum brakes at the rear.

Now, how many of us keep 10 car's lenth at 80km/hr and the answer is "0" including myself [bigcry]

No use wan unless you have evidence.

I was stationary at traffic light junction. Came a BMW bang me hard to kiss the car in front. Final verdict, the insurance company simply use that bola rule to settle. I am deem liable. I sent my objection to my insurance company but they simply ignored. Now, NCD down to 20%. Loading up 100%.

Insurance company are all leech. And we are all forced to let them suck our blood.

For TS, if the taxi driver in front can take money and settled will be the best option for TS.

So you pay your own damages? 50/50? Your excess you paid yourself?

No. I claim the BMW's insurance 100% for the repair.

Car in front claim my insurance.

I pay nothing but my premium now [:(] .

No worries at all

You not last car

Your ws cfm know what they r doing else they may not take your Case if you r the last

Insurance wise no worries too

Max is you pay 0% ncd first till case settled

You can claim back all balance of your 55% premium from respective ins

Jus do up ur car n choose a reasonable courtesy car to bring you around these few days

If you do not need to do OD and you claim Own Damage...even when your NCD is reinstated back to full....when you pay premium next year, insurance co will still load you. Reason is becos you file a OD.

So unless its your fault...never file OD.

Just now on PIE almost kena chain collision too...around 4.45pm near Adam road towards Jurong.

Filtered from BKE onto PIE and wanting to change lane and get home sooner, but a voice in my head tells me to keep to the lane 4 (lorry lane)...traffic was slow due to close to peak hour...

Then after about 2mins, lane 3 in front suddenly all braked...the car beside me (mini) also braked...but suay suay a van (cargo or passenger cant remember) could not brake in time and slam onto the mini... Can hear the "crunch" sound very clearly...I think got another car hit the van too as I use my rearview mirror to see but gotta keep alert on the front traffic..

wah if not of the precautionary voice I would be the victim instead and not the mini...

agreed.

i was hit recently at the back, when i stopped behind a car who attempted to make an illegal right turn.

lucky my case was not challenged.. as the guy behind may say that i stopped to make that illegal turn (when i was not), causing him to hit me.

the cam will help if it happened.

Worry to hear that.

I got may chain collision 1-2 yrs ago.

So many vehicles involved and especially taxi, you have to make police report and insurance.

Normal rule applied.- claim from the car that hit the back.

The first car not NCD affected, but the last car claim his own policy.

Hello bros, thank you for all well wishes and words of advise.

At the presence of the workshop manager, myself and the taxi driver in front have signed the private settlement form that declare both parties hereby agreed not to pursue the matter further. So effectively I should not have to worry about the front car claiming me now.

My workshop will be submitting third party claim against the other taxi that hit my car from behind. She is very confident of claiming as she considered my case a clear cut one. Meanwhile I am using a temp car. No fuss. [:)]

I think you are in correct direction. Can you confirm

1. The front taxi driver signed that he is okay physically (this is to ensure that he does not change his mind later on to clain medical from you)

2. Is it true that the front car claims the one at the back in a chain collision such as yours when there is no proof for who hit who?
